Tuesday November 27, 2007 Hong Kong

Accompanied by her daughter Joyce Cheng (鄭欣宜) and good friend Mrs Chang (張徹太太), Lydia Sum (沈殿霞) was admitted to the Queen Mary Hospital today after returning to Hong Kong from Macau, where she was found unconscious in her hotel room on Saturday.

Arrangements for Lydia's journey were tightly guarded and although the news that she would be travelling by helicopter was widely known, she evaded the press waiting at the harbour by leaving through an alternative exit and was then quickly transferred to the hospital, where the security rails had been erected to keep reporters and other people away.

When she arrived at the hospital, Lydia was looking pale and tired, but she still waved at the press and was fully conscious and alert. A friend had arrived earlier to ensure that everything was ready for her and she was pushed up to the ward in a wheelchair, with Joyce by her side. Neither of them spoke to the press on their way into the hospital.
