With a completely revamped cast including Louis Cheung (張繼聰) and Priscilla Wong (黃翠如), Come Home Love <愛•回家> is suffering a ratings crisis, as the ratings nosedived from 25 points to 21 points. This is in stark contrast with the series’ ratings prior to the cast changes, which had peaked at an impressive 38 points.

Priscilla has also been fiercely criticzed by viewers for bad acting. This has sparked rumors that TVB has given the producers an ultimatum: if the ratings do not improve, the sitcom will be culled by the coming Lunar New Year.

In response to the poor ratings, the production team contemplated inviting the original cast to rejoin the sitcom, but this did not work out as the previous stars are all tied up in other projects. While Angel Chiang (蔣家旻) will finish filming Police Dog Brother <警犬巴打> in late September, Tsui Wing (徐榮) will only be done with filming Brother’s Keeper II <巨輪II> in January 2016. Tsui Wing expressed optimism regarding the ratings and said, “Perhaps once the audience becomes used to the new cast, the ratings will pick up.” As for Lai Lok Yi (黎諾懿), arguably one of the most popular members of the previous cast of Come Home Love, he has just started filming Purely An Accident <純熟意外> and will possibly be done in October.

Apart from Priscilla’s lackluster acting, other factors for the series’ poor ratings include Louis’ character being increasingly more unlikable as the show progresses, and the fact that the characters respectively played by Louis and Priscilla have pre-maturely resolved their romantic tension and are already together, leaving the audience with little suspense.

Louis Cheung, Priscilla Wong to Leave “Come Home Love”

The producers recently clarified that Louis and Priscilla will not actually feature permanently in the cast for Come Home Love and will leave the show in about two months. Executive Producer, Luo Zhen Yue (羅鎮岳) said, “Their characters will break up due to differences in their views regarding marriage, and they will both leave Hong Kong to go on separate journeys of self-discovery.”

On rumors that the previous cast has been invited to rejoin the show, Zhen Yue admitted, “Yes, but they are all unavailable right now. However, if their schedules permit, and if it fits the storyline, we will consider having them back.”

Louis also confirmed that the original plan was for him and Priscilla to only be with the show for two months. He said, “I will be involved in a film production in Mainland China next month, and TVB knew this from the start when they asked me to act in Come Home Love. TVB was very understanding, and so our arrangement was that I would be in Come Home Love for about two months. This is the same arrangement for Priscilla.”

When pressed for his thoughts on the poor ratings, Louis said, “I thought the average of 21 and 22 points was not bad. I guess it needs time to pick up. After all, the audience still feels attached to the Ma family.” He then expressed that he had not heard of the rumors that the show was under the threat of being culled.

Louis added that he did not think he had to worry about ratings as an actor, as poor ratings may be caused by multiple factors. He said, “As long as I have worked hard, I don’t give myself additional stress. I really enjoy filming for Come Home Love.”

Good job TVB, you fucked up the CHL name. CHL2 should ALWAYS have been a Ma Family spinoff.. not some Yoga bullshit that doesn't include any of the main cast of CHL1.

It should be a no-brainer to bring them back. I guess they can slowly bring them back with Angel and Chris Lai done in a few months. I'm pretty sure Lai Goo has no acting gigs right now :kristal:. Just have Ma Keurng join the cast later. But meanwhile I guess with Louis gone, there will be no more cameo appearances by John-Richard-Damon which will be a pity. Also, if the initial plan was for them to leave in 2 months, then there will literally be no connection of the new cast and old cast, should have just marketed the sitcom as its own unique sitcom.

If they were only going to be on the show for 2 months, they should had advertise it as a short spinoff. They just too lazy to just changed the name.

I'm just curious as to what they will do with the original cast, can they get all of the back.. John Ma and Alex..that storyline needs a conclusion.

Yea dude, even with the breakup you could tell the sitcom was like it was coming to an end. Guess I was right. And that video I posted a while ago was pretty much a dead accurate with this article :kristal:

They probably won't be able to get Alex back, but the least is Ma Family IMO.

Should never have stopped the show to begin with haha..geez. No brainer there, why spin off when the original was doing so well. Just take a break like the US do and come back with the Ma family fresh and new is all they had to do....

CHL1 was going downhill too after they made the transition to involve the new law firm. Hindsight they should have kept going with the original law firm.

It's hard to bring everyone back from Ma Family. It's either they slowly bring them back one by one when their personal schedule clears up, or they wait until everyone is free to start as one again. If they start as one again, that'll be at least January to start filming, meaning around late January or February to start the broadcast.

  13. O M F G ...... this is totally ghey~! Jeff shinobi b-lee

I mean it's great they realise that they need to cull cast from CHL2 but it's not 100% just their acting ... it's the freaking story line that's messed up the whole CHL name. Shit story = shit ratings. Shouldn't blame it all on the actors. The producers made their choice to reuse the CHL name but culled 99% of the CHL cast and made this stoooopid Come Yoga Love story  :facepalm2:

Just kill the CHL2 series now before it gets worse... the CHL brand is already getting dragged down through the gutters because of this current series . . . lay it to rest and bring on a fresh, new sitcom la

    H!

There are just too many problems.

    1) Does the original cast want to return? If you were an actor, would you rather participate in a sitcom (won't win awards most likely) or be in a normal 45 minute drama that has a chance of getting recognition for your acting?

    2) If original cast wants to return, everyone's schedule is different. It's hard to bring back everyone at the same time.

    3) What happens with CHL2 now? Do you continue with the dry seafood place? How do you incorporate the old cast again along with the law firm (Richard and Ha Jeh)?

In a month, there are more or less 20 episodes. Even if they wrap up filming CHL2 right now, the broadcast would end late September or early October. I guess you could start bringing back everyone then, with Tsui Wing coming in after.

I'm actually very eager to know what's the plan they have. Keep bringing the CHL news..!

If they can't get the original cast, they might wad well cancel it and make a new sitcom all together.

CHL1 was going to get cut sooner or later, ever since the transition to the new law firm. They already tried "rebooting" it once when they did that, and it was fine for a while.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. They tried fixing it by making CHL2 which flopped.

My guts says this will be the end of CHL era and the Ma Family, I really don't see the original cast getting back together. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Was good while it lasted. I will never forget the man closest to god.. John Ma :john2:

  20. shinobi Jeff I think damage is done already to CHL brand... I want/hope the producers just kill this off sooner rather than later and start brainstorming on a new sitcom concept.
