Laughs And Tears At The JSGs

The 2007 Jade Solid Gold Awards Ceremony (2007年度十大勁歌金曲頒獎典禮) on Saturday night revealed Eason Chan (陳奕迅) and Joey Yung (容祖兒) to be the big winners. The awards for Best Male Singer and Best Female Singer went to Eason and Joey, while Asia's Best Male Singer and Asia's Best Female Singer went to Eason and Twins, and Song of the Year went to Hacken Lee (李克勤) for his single "Where Did The Flowers Go" <花落谁家>.

Known for his witty remarks, host Eric Tsang (曾志偉) did not forget to humour the audience. When he was presenting Justin Lo (側田) with an award for Top 10 Song for Justin's song "Men's KTV" <男人KTV>, Eric jokingly asked Justin to remove his baseball cap, causing Justin to awkwardly imitate the action of removing his hat.

Also, as Joey was giving her thank you speech for Best Mandarin Song for her song "Little" <小小>, Eric told her not to say too much, because she would likely have the opportunity to say it later in the night - hinting that she had more awards to come. And during the announcement for Best Female Singer, Eric commented that, even without the announcement, the winner was obvious, because there was only one person who had changed into an outfit to perform, and as the camera panned the artists, it was clear that only Joey had changed. Her fifth consecutive win of the Best Female Singer award ties her with the late Anita Mui (梅艷芳).

Eason won the Best Male Singer award for the second year in a row. Eason has now scooped 13 prizes in this winter's music awards season - more than any other artist. Twins burst into tears as they accepted their first JSG award.

Vincy Chan (泳兒) received a Top 10 Song award for her single "No Heart to Sing" <無心戀唱> and cried tears of joy as she was presented with it. Eric took the opportunity to jest that she had the ability to cry instantly and pointed out that she surely had not anticipated an award, otherwise she would not have worn non-waterproof mascara.

During the announcement for the Best Performance award, one of the MCs Amigo Chui (崔建邦) announced the winner to be Ivana Wong (王菀之). After Ivana had accepted the award and had given her thank you speech, a further announcement was made telling everyone that the award should have gone to Hins Cheung (張敬軒) and was only given to Ivana in error. This caused embarrassment for Ivana and everyone in attendance. Thankfully, Hins settled the situation graciously by saying that he would share the award with Ivana.
