get a dell they are pretty darn cheap and have decent performance. i highly recommend you go into the business section and buy one of the latitude laptops they are durable have good specs and are better than the inpiron computers

at that price point, look into higher quality such as an IBM thinkpad or their cheaper Lenovo series.

pretty cool laptop here...the hp artist design edition laptop, i think the price is kinda the same as the regular...i think this is the "dv" series and have a 14.1 screen. the design is pretty eye catching...i would recommend hp.

make sure to buy a laptop with better after sale service. coz parts from laptop usually need to send back for services if anything goes wrong. You can fix pc yourself therefore its diff method when buying a pc and a laptop

i say just don't get a dell at all. but there we go.

  12. lol..... IBM doesn't make there laptops anymore it is taken over the the Chinese Lenovo company.. so its not really a series.... because currently i have an IBM Thinkpad T60p and its made by lenovo...

But yeah i agree with the general consensus to just get a dell they are cheap and fairly easy to fix and unless you are looking for performance your price range would be a bit higher.... but you can get a fairly good laptop with that range if you go with dell

before all those, get what get what... Ask yourself some questions. There are millions of laptop out there, you need to isolate what you are looking for, then your choices will narrow down.

    - weight a factor? 2-2.5lbs? 4-4.5lbs? or 6+ lbs
    - battery life? do you expect yourself to plug most of the time...
    - will you be carrying it around alot? or your laptop is just going to be sitting in the car most of the time. A heavy laptop is very discouraging for those who carry around (so much you'll hate it)
    - discrete graphics card? they consume more batt... will you be playing 3D games on it?
    - screen size, 12", 14.1? standard 15 or 17"? 15" and 17" will most probably be a 5lb+ laptop
    - keyboard comfortable?
    - are you getting warranty? i will add another good 200$+ on it
    - How long you expect your laptop to last? popularity of laptops is really picking up speed in the past year.

shopping for laptop is fun. Take your time, read reviews, try them out and remember not to rush on the purchase. =D

u don't have to rele read reviews. i don't i just pick the one which works and is right for me. but ye u should rele decide upon what u want ur laptop to have depending on what u do most often. i never seem to understand the point of a 17 inch laptop personally cos i use a laptop for portability. also, with the bigger screen the battery life is dramatically shorter.

dell customer support is where its at...quite better than hp in what i've had to deal with...i've had laptops fixed in a matter of days with next business day parts from them and brand new computers from them with their complete care package. For the price dell's aren't too bad either quite the bang for the buck but i'd highly recommend the latitude line over any of the other lines. they are light sleek and quite durable and have decent processors memory and best of all has XP
