With some great advice from budgynana and Knoctur_nal and the space in my desktop running out, I decided to get started on my server build.

I'll try my best to update this as frequently as possible. At the moment I need to buy some drives and some cables. (A 4pin molex, 8pin EPS, and a bunch of SATA).

Here are the basic specs of the server.
    - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
    - Asus P5N32E-SLI
    - 8GB of RAM
    - SeaSonic S12II 430Watt PSU
    - Antec P280 Mid-Tower
    - 3x 2TB Seagate Baracudda

    On to the pics!

    Thanks!

Yessir! She'll be running 24/7 in my room so I opted for the silent route for the build.

Good call. Keeping those drives cool is key.

Keep in mind if you want to actually back up the server data itself too.

Thanks! I'm thinking of picking up a cheap 3TB external to mirror my mission critical data.

Update: Got my drives in. 3x 2TB with a 74GB Raptor for the OS. Waiting on same cables to arrive in the mail before I can throw the motherboard on and get this thing up and running.

Right on. 74 rap will be more than enough. Server 2k8 runs pretty lean.
Server side backups are reliable as well.

Ahh good to know. I think I'll save the money from the external and load up on internal drives to keep things clean.

Projects current dead in the water. Motherboard is dead. Here's a pic, the red SATA cable and the power cable at the bottom were in temporarily so i could install the OS but that never happened. Lol

  9. Sorry about the mobo problem. But damn that is a gorgeous setup regardless.

    Thanks man!

Thanks! I've got 2 extra SATA connections available. I'll invest in more drives after I get a quieter heatsink.

Server is up and running! Only issue I have with it now is that the cooler is friggin noisy. Gonna look into a quieter cooler.
