Kevin Cheng, Raymond Lam, Bobby Au Yeung - More than just colleagues

During the filming of Burning Flame 3, there were many rumours that Kevin and Wong Hei could not get along. The media reported that the two did not interact at all when filming. Kevin emphasised, “We are just colleagues.”

He was in town yesterday with Raymond and Bobby for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a Hong Kong style restaurant at Mohamed Sultan Road.

Kevin was joking around and laughing with the other two, but when asked about his relationship with Wong Hei, he became serious and said, “Everyone is very professional when working, but some people can be colleagues and friends, just like Raymond and I, while some can only remain colleagues.”

So what is his relationship with Charmaine Sheh, who is constantly surrounded by rumours? “Colleagues and friends.” And with rumoured girlfriend Niki Chow? “Also colleagues and friends.” Kevin made it clear again that he will not reveal whether or not he is dating, but he will inform the media when he is getting married.

Kevin said that Wong Hei is just a colleague, but his relationship with Raymond and Bobby is evidently much closer. During the interview, the three made fun of one another, and would also help each another out of sensitive questions.

Raymond wore a white shirt that was unbuttoned till his chest, paired with a thin knitted top. A reporter commented that his dressing that day was the most appropriate among the three for Singapore’s warm weather. Raymond purposely looked over to Kevin, who was in a suit, and said, “This is common sense.”

“It’s all right, I can take it off,” Kevin said as he took his jacket off.

Bobby was dressed “Shanghai Beach” style, complete with scarf and hat. Didn’t he feel hot? He exclaimed, “The weather station in Hong Kong said the temperature here would be 18 to 22 degrees!”

Raymond will focus on music next year

Having won awards at the TVB 41st Anniversary Awards, Raymond was asked if he has increased his fees for filming and for attending such ribbon-cutting ceremonies. He said, “No, my fees have always been at a certain level.” Kevin immediately added, “At a high level right?”

At this year’s Anniversary Awards, the big winner was Moonlight Resonance, which Raymond starred in. Did Kevin and Bobby feel neglected not having a part in the grand production?

Bobby tapped Raymond’s shoulder and asked, “Do you think you have neglected me?” Raymond smiled and did not answer. Bobby then remarked that everyone has a chance to be involved in grand productions, but it all depends on timing.

Kevin said that be it a small or big production, they feel encouraged as long as their acting is recognised by audience, and will let things take their natural course. “Take Raymond for example, he has been very lucky this year, but he has also been in many unknown productions in the past.” “That’s not true!” Raymond retorted.

Raymond has been heavily promoted this year, but will only have one series aired next year. He explained that he will spend more time on his music career next year.

No awards if you don’t eat with TVB top executives?

When interviewed by Apple Daily recently, Joe Ma revealed that he fell out of favour because he refused to eat with the top executives. Kevin and Raymond, on the other hand, are frequently photographed having meals with the executives. What are their thoughts on Joe’s comments?

“He was joking,” Raymond said. “We share the same manager, and when he finished the interview that day, I already knew what he said. Actually, all of us male actors are on very good terms, it’s just healthy competition.”

As for previous rumours about him fighting with Ha Yu for the Best Actor Award, Raymond also dismissed it as sensationalism and said that there was no bad blood between them. “I’m very glad that we male actors got more attention at the Anniversary Awards this year, the focus was always on the ladies in the past.”
