Kenneth Ma (馬國明) and Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) are leading online polls as this year’s top contenders for TV King and TV Queen. Although viewers generally supported last year’s public voting system, some felt that it instead crushed the chances of less popular artists. Unable to strike a fair balance, TVB announced on October 9 that this year’s Best Actor and Best Actress awards will be decided by a panel of industry professionals. TVB executive Sandy Yue (余詠珊) explained, “Fans may only vote to support their idols instead of recognizing those with true talent… using a professional judging panel would increase the awards’ persuasiveness.” With TVB calling the shots once again, many speculate that the company will hand out TV’s highest honors to its own contract artists. Although Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) and Moses Chan (陳豪) are often touted by the media due to their involvement in Anniversary series Will Power <法外風雲>, TVB’s managed artist Kenneth Ma seems to be netizens’ choice. Having starred this year in Season of Love <戀愛季節>, Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲霄II>, and the upcoming anniversary series The Hippocratic Crush 2 <On Call 36小時 II>, Kenneth is surely being groomed to take the TV King title. A dark horse favorite last year, Kenneth has already won over the public. His Best Actor win at the Astro on Demand Awards also demonstrated his popularity. Other notable TVB-managed artists such as Michael Tse (謝天華) and Raymond Lam (林峯) have either left the company or off to pursue other ventures. Wayne and Moses aside, the media believes Kenneth’s strongest competitor is likely the heavily-promoted Ruco Chan (陳展鵬). Discussing his chances, Kenneth said, “The Hippocratic Crush 2 is a sequel after all… there aren’t any drastic differences, so I don’t think my chances are very high.” As for TV Queen, Linda Chung is currently an online favorite while Kate Tsui (徐子珊) and Tavia Yeung (楊怡) are also predicted to be strong contenders. Although some feel that Linda’s performance in Brother’s Keeper <巨輪> is average at best, her stint during this summer’s Office of Practical Jokes <玩嘢王> has highlighted her potential. A popular actress with a guaranteed audience, Linda has also been cast in the highly anticipated Tiger Cubs 2 <飛虎II> and is a singer under TVB’s new record label. Support Kenneth and Tavia. As for Linda and Kate... I really don't think they're up there yet. Tavia has won before already, and she definitely will need a breakthrough to win a second time, however I'm still a fan of her acting.
Tavia doesn't need a breakthrough to beat Fala and Kate. But I do agree traditionally you need a breakthrough to win a second time. Linda has potential, but still need a breakthrough role, not her typical/usual roles. Perhaps Tiger Club 2 will help her out with that next year. If TVB ain't crowning Chilam or Francis, then the next candidate is definitely Kenneth deserving it. Mose and Wayne is horrible in the so-called TVB Anniversary Series "Will Power". I see Edwin taking home the supporting actor. Nancy has a good chance as supporting actress from TITS2 (she carried her role very well in the series). Kristal Lin did well in Brother's Keeper, very natural, very underrated. Mandy took a huge step back this year IMO. Very disappointing. I am sure they will give that most improved actress to Eliza. TVB starting to milk her crazy!
