I just bought a Sony HD camcorder (HDRSR5). Tried it out but found it was not that great. Video format is AVCHD which playback was flakey on my PC and the files cannot be simply burned onto a DVD for playback. AVCHD has to be converted to MPEG format in order to be playable on any DVD player and doing so defeats the purpose of high definition which AVCHD supposedly is. Still photo shots is 4MP which is ok, video recording is pretty bad in dim lighting and video playback I find was a little grainy. I'm going to return it and will look for maybe a standard video hard drive camcorder instead. I'm interested in check out the JVC Everio models. It seems only one from that line comes with built in flash, docking station and 7MP photo shots. (JVC Everio GZ-MG730) Retails for $850CND, seems hard to find. Any suggestions for a good camcorder will be appreciated.
rele i always thought sony were supposed to be quite gd with camcorders. u should try the Sony HDR-HC3 as that uses minidv tapes so u can play it straight onto ur tv without needing to convert and stuff. also forgot to mention the quality should be better when recorded in tape as there is no compression.
after spending more than 750 you came to the conclusion that it sucked. at least i think you paid around that unless you ripped it from someone. damn thats a nice price. lol try this one out http://www.camcorderinfo.com/ or yahooooooooooo
The Sony cam that I bought was on sale for $899 from $1099 at one of the big box electronics stores. I managed to get a further $100 off the sale price. I had a Panasonic 3ccd mini DV cam before. It was alright but just not convenient as a camcorder with hard drive plus it's quite bulky compared to the newer ones.
can't u hook the video cam and play it on tv currently? cos just realised it should come with a cable to hook up to the tv.
The camcorder comes with the video cables and docking base for output tv or pc but it's good to make DVD's for friends of family if they want it plus there's only a limited amount of space on the hd.
its prob dvd quality anyway i reckon, cos if it only stores 15 hours on a 40gb hard drive, it would make sense that the quality should be at dvd.
ye that is impressive, that should be enough to store all ur videos for a fair length of time before u actually need to move some of the video files.
well do that only if u have a lot of free hdd space on ur laptop/computer otherwise keeping it on the camcorder would be better. besides its not like the hdd on the camcorder is gonna run out of space anytime soon and by keeping it on there, u will be able to watch ur video files on the tv via a cable.
yeah and risk the fact that youll lose priceless movies. always backup when you have the chance homie.
I returned the Sony Hi Def camcorder and bought the JVC Everio. A bad mistake. Video quality was pretty bad on the Everio and still shots looked like it taken by a cell phone cam. The only good thing about the camcorder is the small size, other than that, it's more a toy. I will return the Everio and go for a different Hi Def camcorder. Possibly the Sony HDRSR10 which was a model up from the first Sony I bought.
