Since moving from ATV to TVB in 2012, Joey Meng (万绮雯) has lead TVB dramas was often encouraged to sign a long-term management contract with TVB. However, after her last six-month contract expired, Joey chose not to extend the contract and has been enjoying her break by vacationing in Europe. Joey’s decision was purportedly motivated by the consecutive deaths of her six beloved cats that took place while she was filming Come On, Cousin <老表,你好hea!>. Due to the pressure for Joey to keep up a bright disposition when filming a comedy, Joey was unable to properly grieve over the deaths of her cats, and was in need of this break to recover emotionally. When asked about Joey, her husband admitted that Joey had discussed with him the possibility of leaving TVB altogether, “Her health has not been great and she was also emotionally distraught when the cats passed away. So she decided to take a break for a while.” Joey’s husband added, “I don’t think we will be having another cat for a while. It feels like we’ve lost family…it feels terrible, and the worst part is it happened so suddenly and consecutively as well.” As for whether they were considering having children, Joey’s husband said, “I don’t think so. We’ve discussed this together and we both know what we want. Of course, an ‘accident’ may happen…we are not [actively trying for a baby].” Joey’s husband emphasized that once he clears some of his work, he and Joey would go on a long vacation and spend some quality time together as a couple.
