I actually watched a documentary about him not too long ago and I truly appreciated this point that was brought out: "Though he is better known for his love of science, the Bible was Sir Isaac Newton's greatest passion. He devoted more time to the study of Scripture than to science, and said, "I have a fundamental belief in the Bible as the Word of God, written by those who were inspired. I study the Bible daily."He spent a great deal of time trying to discover hidden messages within the Bible. Newton is generally thought to have been unitarian, not holding to Trinitarianism. He listed "worshipping Christ as God" in a list of "Idolatria" in his theological notebook. In a minority view, T.C. Pfizenmaier argued that he held closer to the Eastern Orthodox view of the Trinity rather than the Western one held by Roman Catholics, Anglicans and Protestants. In his final days Newton refused the sacrament of the Church of England. Newton and Boyle’s mechanical philosophy was promoted by rationalist pamphleteers as a viable alternative to the pantheists and enthusiasts, and was accepted hesitantly by orthodox preachers clergy as well as dissident preachers like the latitudinarians. The clarity and simplicity of science was seen as a way in which to combat the emotional and mystical superlatives of superstitious enthusiasm, as well as the threat of atheism. The attacks made against pre-Enlightenment magical thinking, and the mystical elements of Christianity, were given their foundation with Boyle’s mechanical conception of the universe. Newton gave Boyle’s ideas their completion through mathematical proofs, and more importantly was very successful in popularizing them. Newton refashioned the world governed by an interventionist God into a world crafted by a God that designs along rational and universal principles. These principles were available for all people to discover, allowed man to pursue his own aims fruitfully in this life, not the next, and to perfect himself with his own rational powers. The perceived ability of Newtonians to explain the world, both physical and social, through logical calculations alone is the crucial idea in the disenchantment of Christianity. Newton saw God as the masterful creator whose existence could not be denied in the face of the grandeur of all creation." http://www.answers.com/topic/isaac-newton-s-religious-views
The only difference between my agonistic view and this one is that I name the non-humanoid creator of the universe no names (just higher being would do) while Newtonians call him a humanoid God.
^ I don't agree with the term "Humanoid" either, but just to know that he had such an ardent love for the scriptures, was fascinating to me for some reason.-lol
I wasn't too surprised... Perhaps the Da Vinci code brainwashed me a wee bit about that -whistle But I meant "humanoid" in the sense that human is made by God in the image of himself (which to me equates to human resembles God, who looks human??? If that make any sense to you...) Not that God IS human or God walked the Earth or whatnot (well, maybe he did, but who knows if he didn't)... Just trying to clear things up -^_^
^I see, I thought you meant humanoid as one resembling a human in appearance, which I don't agree with, if that term is addressed to God. Thank you for the clarification.-blush
Hmmm, now I am confused. So what is it in "humanoid" that you don't agree with??? I don't think the higher being is humanoid... So I usually call it IT and not HIM... @_@b If that makes it clearer... Not my best day, today... Brain not functioning properly >.<
^lol you're not alone, Im having a slight migraine atm, so I'm abit distracted.. I dont agree with using the term "humanoid" to imply that God looks like a human, because I believe that He is a spirit being, in other words invisible. Not sure if that answers you clearly. I do believe that he created humans with His qualities though. Anyway, I see what you are trying to say, hiake-lol
^Is the migraine due to lingering in this section? Or is it due to 'crossing swords' with someone in particular?
^lmao! BR.. "Crossing swords" lol going medieval on me there..-lol Nah, I think it's due to that I havent drank any water yet today, well until now. Didnt even realize it til my head started to hurt..-down
Thank you, BR -hug lol since when does iced tea help with migraines...?? Yea, drinking some water now..>.<
^Hmm, iced GREEN tea.. If it's the normal black tea, i guess that would dehydrate you and make it worse... -sweat
