A gala entertainment show hosted by the Sichuan Broadcasting Group and co-presented by Sichuan Television, Phoenix TV and Chengdu TV was held on Friday evening in Chengdu. The In The Name Of Life <以生命的名義> show brought together over 60 performers from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and SE Asia to pay respects to the heroic efforts of the army, police, medical staff, emergency services, volunteers and the many victims who have not given up on life.

Among the acts were Hong Kong superstars including Jackie Chan (成龍), Andy Lau (劉德華), Jacky Cheung (張學友), Leon Lai (黎明), Alan Tam (譚詠麟), Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文) and Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅). Other performers included Guoli Zhang (張國立), Xiaogang Feng (馮小剛), Daoming Chen (陳道明) and Sun Nan (孫楠) from the mainland and also Jacky Wu (吳宗憲), David Tao (陶喆), Leehom Wang (王力宏), Stefanie Sun (孫燕姿) and Elva Hsiao (蕭亞軒).

With the shortage of air travel to the area, East Asia boss Peter Lam (林建嶽) offered his support by making his private jet available to ferry artistes to the event and also bringing them back to Hong Kong following the show in time for the Hong Kong concert that has been arranged for today.

For his performance in the show, Leon changed the lyrics for his song "Heart is Beating" <心在跳> into "Linked Hearts Are Beating" <心連心在跳> to reflect the sentiments of the show. He said that as a Chinese person, then no matter what happens and where you are, you still feel a link towards the other Chinese people. He added that he felt extremely comforted to see so many companies joining together to support the relief effort.

Miriam has been rushing around after returning from her tour in America and after recording the fundraising song in Hong Kong, she quickly headed to Chengdu to join her colleagues, but missed out on the visit to the most heavily affected areas. She said that she will do her part in days to come because it will take a long time to fully recover from the disaster and people still need a lot of care.
