Pineapple is both acidic and coarse, especially if one eats pieces that have any of the outer "skin" of the fruit remaining. So there is possibility that you irritated the surface of your tongue with the pineapple.

That's what happens to everyone when they're eating a fresh cut pineapple. The trick is to give the pineapple a quick wash in salted water. The slices I mean.

^^ Then you're probably allergic to pineapples? Only 2 weeks ago I found out I had another food allergy: fresh tomato's. It's just weird how one can suddenly develop a food allergy out of nowhere.

yeah, most likely some food allergy
except its nothing major, only itch means u can still eat it wen u want
theres some ppl who bloat up crazily etc wen they eat something they allergic to, some even die ><

ex-workmate, she was allergic to seafood altogether =(

hmm...allergy....but i eat the canned ones and nothing happens?

btw i really like eating pineapples

The canned ones are somehow processed (salt water or sweetened water) so this might reduce the stuff you're allergic to? I can also eat baked/processed tomato's but I'd better stay out of the fresh ones -and I love to eat a whole- if I don't want to have that itchy feeling around my mouth.

yea, maybe also there's some chemical that they sprayed on the outer layer and when u cut it, it goes to the meat part. hence the itchy tongue.

hmmm...i doubt it... but is there any way to prove that it is the chemicals from the spray that is causing the itchiness? it must be some chemical in particular they use on pineapples becos oranges, melons, and apples etc do not cause any irritation wot so ever.

Seems plausible that the processing of canned pineapples might have destroyed or reduced the ingredient that i might be allergic to. Is there some way to verify this? I'm also curious as to what this "stuff" is that is in pineapples that causes this "alergy" if it is one?

Taxloss, i know how u feel....the fresh pineapples taste 20 times better than canned ones.

This might be a help for you:

    Pineapple:
Yeah what a shame if you can't eat your favorite fresh fruits anymore! All we can hope is there will be some sort of medicine to cure these allergies or risk the symptons by eating the unprocessed fruits.

^No probs. You can ask your doctor for an allergy test and sometimes they can find out what what exactly you're allergic of and perhaps can tell you what you can or cannot do about it. I think I'm letting myself tested on allergies if a third food allergy shows up. -mellow

I hated the allergy test... It has always been inconclusive at best... And it's A LOT OF needle pricks =_=bbb

    And annoying too...

Yup, have heard about these allergy tests are often inconclusive...and on second thought I think I'm not going to let myself tested if it needs that lot of needle pricks! -ohmy

Very interesting websites.... I read up on tomato, it said "Allergy to tomato is also linked to allergy to potato since they are related plants." So taxloss are you alergic to potato too?

Looking at the list of Allergenic Foods, i was amazed by how many foods ppl can be alergic to. I guess it is becos i've grown up thinking thay food is always good for you. And that the fact that the only alergy i'd thought i had was to alcohol (but i'd only found this out just recently) didn't prepare me to think there could be so many alergies to food. I'd always thought people were alergic to things that were "not good" for you, if u know wot i mean.
