    What is acne?

Acne can affect people from ages 10 through 40 and up. Acne can show up as any of the following; congested pores, whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, pustules, or cysts (deep pimples). These blemishes occur wherever there are many oil (sebaceous) glands, mainly on the face, chest, and back. Acne is commonly referred to in slang as zits.

You can do a lot for your acne if you understand what brings it on and what really doesn't (despite what people tell you)--and if you know what you can get at a drugstore or cosmetic counter without a prescription. For tougher cases, you should consult a physician.

    What causes acne anyway?

No one factor causes acne. As physicians understand it, acne happens when oil (sebaceous) glands come to life around puberty, when these glands are stimulated by male hormones that are produced in the adrenal glands of both boys and girls. The oil glands, which are located just beneath the skin, continuously produce and secrete oil through openings in the skin. The oil lubricates and protects the skin. Under certain circumstances, cells that are close to the openings of the oil glands block the openings. This causes a buildup of oil underneath the skin. Bacteria, which live in everyone's skin but generally mind their own business, feast on this oil, multiply, and cause the surrounding tissues to become inflamed.

yeah, i'd say it's mostly due to puberty. are you still in your teens? if so then perhaps that's why you're experiencing break outs. but don't worry, you're not alone. <_< one of the worst things about being a teenager -_-2 try using face scrubs (clean&clear, noxema). i also heard that proactive works for most people.

i find that washing your face with water 3-5 times a day helps a lot.
i wash my face in the morning, right afterschool, after dinner, and when i brush my teeth.
apparently, my acne is clearing up pretty nicely. and besides, that oily look virtually disappears.

i also like using the clean & clear line of products.
try finding products high in benzoic acid (i use 10% BA face cleanser and 10% BA topical cream from clean & clear).

I guess you could try using proactiv but i heard the product smells awful and well, it's wayyyyy too expensive.

if all else fails, just live it out! it'll eventually clear up. and besides... it's not ALL about looks. a pimple here and there usually won't mean that much to other people.

Well if you use face wash products 2 times a day and a special spot+pimple cream called "freederm" it helps very much ;)

When I was a teenager, I never had any pimples. I had a very balanced diet, no stress, and plenty of exercise. My sister, on the other hand, had massive breakouts almost every month when she was a teenager. How many pimples you get really depends on what type of skin you have, which, I believe, is hereditary.

Nowadays, I get a pimple here & there, depending on how stressed out I am, how much sleep I'm lacking, the time of month, and the type of food I'm eating. I've come to the conclusion that greasy/fried foods, such as french fries/potato chips, cause a lot of breakouts for me, so I tend to stay away from them. I also avoid touching my face so that dirt doesn't go and clog up my pores.

When pimples do come, I just let them run its course like a nasty virus. I put some cream on it, like oxy, which works fine for me.

Also, just because you have a pimple, you shouldn't wash your face incessantly. If you wash your face too often, you are triggering more oil to be produced, and the more oily your face, the less likely the pimple will disappear.

Once your hormonal levels balance out, you should experience fewer breakouts.
