OK, can any1 get the answer for this question? i just cant get it!! maybe its just cuz im stupid-noclue anyways here it is: 3 FAMILIES WENT TO A HOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE TOTAL ROOM COST IS $300, SO EACH family PAID $100 AND WENT TO THEIR ROOMS. A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM COST SHOULD BE ONLY $250, SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 FAMILIES WITH $50. ON THE WAY, THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $50 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 FAMILIES, SO HE GAVE EACH FAMILY A $10 BILL AND KEPT THE OTHER $20 FOR HIMSELF. THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 FAMILY EACH PAID $90 FOR THEIR ROOMS, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $270, ADD THE $20 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $290. WHERE ARE THE OTHER 10 DOLLARS?
3 families paying $300 is not the same situation as 3 families paying $300 - $20 (the bellboy took) = $280. Divide the $280 by 3 families and each family is paying 93.3333333. There is no missing $10 because (93.3333 * 3 ) + $20 = $300 (well, if you round up the 99). the proper way to look is that the hotel is getting $250 and he refunded $50. $30 goes to each of the family, bellboy kept $20; so the families had to pay $280 for the rooms.
i love these types of questions ... logical, yet complex the answer is intriguing ... b/c you can't evaluate the final premise from the original amount. the part that is tricky is that the riddle wants its audience to subtract the new amount with the original amount paid. however, logically that is not correct. since it was not 300 dollars paid to the hotel, but only 250. therefore, with 250 divided among 3 families would be 83 and 1/3 dollars paid per family. adding the 10 dollars that was given back to the families gives a total of 93 and 1/3 dollars paid per family. and then adding the bellboy's 'stolen' amount. gives you back the correct paid = 300 dollars.
^wat he meant was...u looked at it as if each family paid a separate amount..whereas it is actually a total $280 paid by all 3 families combined...`` $300(initial amount) - $250 (actual cost) = $50 (refund) out of the $50 ...$50 - $20 (bellboy stole it) = $30(the money given to the families) therefore....$250 (room cost) + $30 (refund to family) + $20 (bellboy) = $300 uh..`` maybe i just...confused u more..buh...yeah..just look at it again if u realli wanna figure it out`` love` mon
its the way they word it that is confusing. You see the question ask in the end where is the other $10 dollar, it is confusing because most people think that the total room costs for the 3 families is $300, but actually it only cost $250. Instead of total cost = $300 = $270 (the 3 families paid) + $20 (bell boy stole) + ? missing $10 it is actually total cost = $250 (the real total room cost) = $270 (the 3 families paid) - $20 (bell boy stole).
ahahaha... simple.. 300 dollas.. minus 250 for the actual room.. bellboy with 30 dollas... you get rice wine...
good for you. glad ppl helped explain the problem. just revisit this thread ... maybe i should have told you to look at it from the math problem angle rather than the words. the words was meant to make you confused.
XD This is sort of a revised version of another riddle I read, but the other was every number with one 0 less. So the 10 was a 1 and the 30 was a 3.
what he meant was the real version was a total of 30 dollars not 300 i heard it somewhere.... the answer seems simple I guess just take 250 dollars divide it by 3 which is 83.33333333 and everyone got 10 extra dollars back which is 93.333333333 so the bell boy got 6.666666666666666666666 X 3 which is equal to 19.999999 something like that
