All in the pace and your breathing. Once you have them in sync, you won't get tired so easily (I hum a song that I made up in my head that has beats to go with my breathing). Once I dial in my pace, breathing, and route, I generally try to think about things and reflect on them while I keep running.

If you want better mile times (since you know the distance), you'll have to push yourself at certain parts and use your regular pace to recover for the next mini sprint.

This is what worked for me back when I ran for times and not for exercise.

: ( You've beat me by 16 sec. >< But you're an inch taller than me and weigh considerably less.

Mhhmmm all in the control of your pace.

I have my ways of running the mile, I either :

    1. Sprint it all
    - Kinda hard, But I go as fast as I possibly can through out the whole thing. I only do this if I feel really up for it.

    2. Go at a good pace the first two laps, then slow the third lap, then sprint the last.
    - Gah, It's weird but its helps

    3. Just pace myself throughout the whole thing
    - This is what I do most of the time.

I always do fine, and stay in status quo. I almost never drop or gain a lot.

i can run from my computer to the fridge in less than a second ... -.^

    does that count??

lol. in high school, i wrestled and weighed in about 270 or so. but able to max brench 330lb .. so to those who think i'm a fat-ass -nono hahaha .. naw, i'm pretty bulky. anyways, even though with the heavier exterior >> i can still gut out 8 minutes on the 1600 meter race and about 15 mins on the 3200 meters.

a trick i learned is that you have to pace and rhythmize your breathing with your running. at a constant 'breathe in twice' and 'breathe out once' rhythm, it is easier for our lungs to use the maximum air from each intake >> therefore providing enough oxygen to the muscle being used.

    hahaha .. my two cents.

I normally dont keep track of how fast Im running, but I did several times and Im guessing my average is 3 miles in 25 minutes. I hate running on the tread mill cuz i prefer running on solid ground while enjoying the environment around me. In my opinion the best places to run is around the lake (Lake Merritt), the beach (Alameda Beach) and the marina (SF Marina and Berkeley Marina). I love running in SF from the piers to the Golden Gate Bridge.
