Just want to know peoples opinion on this topic. often I hear and read people praise other people who go to IVY League colleges or prestigious universities and I'm thinking, wow...just because they went to a certain university, they're automatically thought of as being smart and wonderful? so do you absolutely need to get into an Ivy League or prestigious university/college- it is your ultimate goal. or you do not mind going to public schools or community colleges?
Well, obviously if you have the knowledge to go to a best University. You would definatly choose that U... And when you hand in a job application, wouldn't you choose someone U that it's good then a person who goes to some unknown college... But don't get me wrong... If you're going for like Chef, makeup consultant etc... You would then go for college
It depends on what you want to major in. You will have to research which colleges excel in the major you want. For example, Rutgers University, although not a Ivy, has one of the top pharmacy schools in the nation and John Hopkins if you want to study medicine. If you're going the business route, then getting into an Ivy is crucial.
I personally want to be accepted to an IVY leage school but knowing that, it takes a great deal of effort to be even considered. Going online often like this hurts my chances.
sure your college education is what you make out of it, but in the end, all things equal, the kid in the ivy college will get the job over a non ivy. life isn't always fair.
ivy league or community college...doesn't matter to me..as long as they have what i want..then i'm going there....if it helps advance my studies and get me there i want to be..i'm there...
what i found out is that everything you learn in college only prepares you for the real world. everything that was taught in school is not relevent anymore once you graduate. school is what you make of it. i have a friend that went to a credible univeristy and got the exact same job as someone that went to school at MIT making the same amount of money. as long as you have a degree, that is already a major accomplishment in itself.
I don't care much about grade school or high school, but for me university is very important. Reputation plays a big part in deciding the value of your degree when you work that time (in my opinion). But the biggest stumbling block for me is the financial muscle needed to get into a prestigious university, since I am from a relatively poor country.
I personally dont think its that important but yeah reputation does have a big impact. Besides.. a lot of the best teachers/professors don't work for private institutions cuz they have no union and pay is low. Don't be surprised if the public schools has better teachers!! ivy league has smart ppl but not necessarily the best professors. doing well in college is more important. Do you rather be a top student in a decent school or a decent student in a top school?
I think it's overrated. It does help if you go to a prestigious university vs. a cc if you are going into something like business, but it's still not impossible to find a good job. I know tons of ppl from CC who work their butts off to get jobs from big corporations. Honestly, going to a big public university has its disadvantages although it may be prestigious. Take this from a college student, don't worry about it as long as you NETWORK, study hard, and gain work experience you can get any job you want regardless if you went to the best college on earth.
Prestigious or not prestigious... it doent matter... its just how well you do there... theres no point going to a prestigious uni... but getting a 3rd class degree!
i strived hard to get to where i am at now. it's a important step in another chapter of life. getting into a prestigious university will enhance your chances of getting a well paid job and definitely give you better status in society. and being in prestigious university, you are surrounded with other peers similar to you. the university will have better facilities for you to use which can help your studies.
yeah..like everyone said..depends on your major..if your planning to major in something that isn't even in a uc system..then there is no point...
i believe in good university, broad networking, don't be afraid to try different work fields and work hard in everything you do.. and before you know it, you'll be getting paid by the millions..
well, prestigous status is actually very important these days because many colleges and unis look at what school you came from and when you are looking for jobs. some places only accept you from ur background. so its kinda unlucky to have a poor background e.g from a low rated school
