How do I make the text background for my desktop icons transparent ??!!

    ok my desktop has been normal till like..yesterday, and ITS BEEN PISSING ME OFF!!!!!

    the icons on my desktop has this white background behind the text,,,and it used to be transparent!!
    i tried googling for help, ie http://www.hi5hack.com/2007/12/how-to-remove-blue-background-behind.html , but it doesnt work! is ther another method to fix this?? plz help!!XDDD

    EDIT THEY ARE NOT SELECTED THOSE ICONS!!

    I think he means the text has a dark blue background (looks like its highlight)

    To make the test blend in with you desktop do the following

    Open Control Panel
    Open Systems
    Click 'Advanced' tab
    Click Performace
    Select / tick 'Use drop Show for icon label'

    Hope this helps

    Advanced / Performance Tab / Settings Button and put a checkmark in: Use Drop Shadows for Icon Labels

    dave709394 has the directions for you already, but here is a slightly different path:

    Right-click on 'My Computer'> Properties
    Select 'Advance' tab> 'Performance' Settings
    Select "Visual Effects" tab
    Scroll down and select 'Use drop Show for icon label on the desktop'
    Apply settings


    But what you should really do is...get a dock. =D

    YES FINNALLY FIXED~!!
    thanks dave+reflection for helping me =] but it was actually something really simple lol ... right click desktop>arrangeicons>switch off lock webitems XDDDDDDD
