Although Ricky Wong (王維基) spent years poaching TVB artistes, he found little success ever since the launch of HKTV. Already performing worse than ATV in terms of viewership ratings, HKTV’s drama viewership numbers hit an all-time low this month. Before the official ratings were unveiled, Ricky held a company party last week and indicated his intention of producing many new dramas this year. However, the ratings report painted a different picture than Wong’s confident speech. The number of unique daily HKTV viewers dropped from 57,000 to 45,000 over a one-week period as of March 3. Even with the increase of mobile and TV app downloads in the last month, HKTV’s dramas failed to reach a wide audience. Although dramas The Borderline <警界線> and The Election <選戰> generated a lot of initial buzz, viewers seemed to have lost interest recently. With only a handful of completed dramas left to air, it is estimated that HKTV’s series line up will only last through September. As a result, commercials were added during episode broadcasts to generate additional revenue to help fund filming of future dramas. Creds: ihktv
Not having a TV license is the major reason, but most of the dramas that came out weren't really worth watching. .. that's just my opinion.
most of the HKTV dramas kinda boring... im sorry but that is the fact. However, some of them were good like borderline
The main reason why they failing is because they don't have enough good dramas. Some like Borderline were good but others were not
I found them to be good. But pretty short and cut up.. I think they are at least longer than 15 episode each... too cut up.. missing alot of the actions. too bad they didn't get the license... the dramas are really good.. you just need to re-adapt to the new taste from all these years of crap. it's refreshing to see all the prev actors and actresses that ive not seen for a long long time. just beautiful playing the part in the show. we not viewing or streaming it... the numbers are missing... alot of us are downloading and watching it...
it's obvious they lack budget... they have good ideas and have guts to make shows with sensitive subjects, it's sad it didn't really pack out the way they wanted it. more choice is almost always better, so i'm supporting hktv for sure.
HKTV is not a flop. its not money. its the bloody road block from the hk government. bloody stupid not being fair in giving them a license. I guess the ones that got the license have been sleeping in the same cover and shining each others shoe. Their distribution network is restricted. I'm sure the viewership numbers would be way higher than now. They know what they are doing... they have everything to be successfull. the money, the people, the management, and the production studios. to produce goods for success. but lack the distribution network to deliver the goods to everyone in the world. We need new blood in the HK government instead of family inbred in the hk government. The election drama is good reflection on how the hk government is connected with the interest of XOX in HK.
they got banged hard by injustice... had they not been treated like this... and based on the production they have provided... they would be successfull and made a major shift and change in the industry for the betterment of the people in hong kong and viewers in the world. they made a major impact when they operated city telecom offering broadband and telecom services to people in hong kong.
I still prefer TVB over others though. The quality of the series are really nice. Graphics are so beautiful you have to admit. Most of the time, there is so much emphasis on the display of the characters (make up, settings, costumes). Sometimes it feels like TVB is going overboard. But you have to admit, the more money they seem to spend on it, it does feel like...higher quality?
