What's your opinion on the issue? Do you think more guns = more crimes or more guns = less crimes? How do you feel about the current laws regarding gun control & gun rights?

I think more guns = more crimes. I think the government should enforce stricter laws that involve guns and raise the age restriction to 21. Look at the Columbine school shooting. The 2 boys invloved were 18! Killed about 13 people and wounded 20. Most crimes are committed with firearms, and guns just make it easier to kill people. A study done by the National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence reported that a victim is about five times more likely to survive if an attacker is armed with a knife rather than a gun.

What my history teacher told us was exactly what you had just mentioned. She had also included that some people solve their problems with violence; if there was a weapon at disposal, chances are, they'll use it.

If there were no guns or knives, people will have to resort to using words as their defense (which is a good thing). The very extreme would be fist fights -- but at least not as many people would die as a result.

My opinion in this matter is that guns are sources of violence. Protection is one thing, but in this age, I don't see a use for a gun for the common pedestrian.

But a restriction in gun possession would mean a restriction in people's rights, as granted in the US Constitution. Gun control would also be a violation of the act that prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures.

You can't really restrict the possession of knives though [IMG]
But yeah, I think with lesser firearms out there, it can help reduce crime rates. It's reducing the tools which can be used to commit crimes. With more firearms out there, people will just be inclined to use them to settle disputes. I also believe we should raise the bullet prices. [IMG]

However, if we are too strict on control, people who cannot obtain the weapons through normal, legal means will just resort to the 'black market', and that would probably only worsen the situation. :(
The 2nd Amendment can be interpreted differently, though. Personally, I think it was meant to apply solely to a well-regulated militia, and not the common people in general.
