After rounds of fierce competition, contestant #5 Grace Chan (陳凱琳) from Hong Kong successfully won the 2014 Miss Chinese International Pageant. First runner-up of the night was #16 Cindy Zhong (鍾熠) from Vancouver, Canada, while second runner-up was #9 Lucia Lorigiano (黃婷麗) from Montreal, Canada. The Miss Friendship award was earlier presented to #13 Mandi Cheung (張佩雯) from Singapore.

Grace was greeted with a cheering crowd as soon as she made her first appearance onstage. With many local supporters, her confidence instantly boosted. This year’s competition proved to be extremely intense, with contestants being eliminated at every stage so that only the best remained. Grace delivered a stunning flute performance during the talent show segment, which was received with loud applause.

During a question and answer segment of the show, Grace won points by stating beauty contestants should not only possess beauty and intelligence, but a loving heart as well. Having participated in many forms of charity work since winning the 2013 Miss Hong Kong title, she proved to be an example of an ideal contestant. Once Grace was announced as the final winner of the night, she immediately covered her face and burst into tears.

Grace is the first Hong Kong delegate to win the Miss Chinese International title since Sonija Kwok’s (郭羨妮) victory in 2000. Grace was very satisfied by her own performance and excited to win the crown.

    Winners’ Backgrounds

The 22-year old returned to Hong Kong to join the competition upon graduating with a degree in Communications from Simon Fraser University in Canada. Since childhood, participating in a beauty pageant had been Grace’s dream. In her spare time, she likes to play the piano, cook, sing, and read. Grace is able to communicate fluently in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. She is now a signed artist under TVB, and her goal is to inspire others with her work.

First runner-up of the night went to Vancouver’s representative, #16 Cindy Zhong. As a student in the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia, the 23-year old aspires to become a successful businesswoman. Her hobbies include playing badminton, singing, and traveling around the world. Cindy speaks fluent English, Mandarin, and Shanghainese.

Delegate #9 Lucia Lorigiano from Montreal, Canada, came in as the second runner-up. Currently still a university student, the 20-year old hopes to become a doctor upon graduation. Lucia is able to communicate in English, French, Mandarin, and Italian. When there is time, she has a passion for sports including volleyball, soccer, and basketball. Lucia is also a talented photographer and guitar player.

During yesterday’s final rehearsal, the 16 pageants voted for the Miss Friendship award. Singapore’s representative, #13 Mandi Cheung, was selected as this year’s Miss Friendship. During the thank you speech, Mandi expressed her gratitude towards the other candidates and reflected upon the memorable journey of the competition. The 19-year old is currently still completing her major in university, but aspires to be an actress in the future. Mandi is able to speak English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Her hobbies include dancing, watching shows, and traveling the world.

Alot of Chinese Pageant winners have roots from Vancouver which is so cool. Just like Miss HK 2012, Carat, Jacqualine, and Tracy all have roots from Vancouver.
