I, of course, haven't read this book. I found out about him from 1) NYTimes best seller list, on which this book had been listed for a few weeks; and 2) he was at my campus just today to give a lecture type speech about this book, and did a Q&A afterwards. Even though I may not have agreed whole-heartedly to some of his arguments and so-called evidences, which seemed runny at best; he got it right on one thing: God, or namely religion, had become a force interfering with political processes, as Kevin Phillips coined the term American Theocracy in his book of the same name, especially in the States. Anyone read books by Stenger before? They are mostly atheistic, though 1 or 2 had been proper academic books which are part of many university libraries. Any thoughts? Update to come when I finish reading the book.
Well, I have a feeling the subject and I gravitate around each other Though I must say I was not particularly impressed by his presentation/lecture -- some of the "evidences" or "arguments" he posed were very vague and jargon-prone, so I can't help but be wary even though I should be jumping with joy someone wrote an ENTIRE book about God being a social construct and not a "divine being" (as religions suggest)
Sadly enough, I haven't got my paws on it as of yet, plus exam & essays >_< Though I will always end up reading into morning, but I need to have the book before I can start reading!!! Stupid library...
Sigh... stupid exams =_=b Oh oh oh, and here's another to-read list to religion-skeptics: The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason by Sam Harris Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins Atheist Manifesto: The Case Against Christianity, Judaism and Islam by Michel Onfray American Theocracy: The Peril and Politics of Radical Religion, Oil, and Borrowed Money in the 21stCentury by Kevin Phillips It's going to be a busy summer of books and films for me Just wait until I survive exams...
