Sunday January 20, 2008 Hong Kong Rounding off the year's achievements in the Hong Kong music industry, the RTHK 30th Top Ten Gold Songs Awards (第三十屆十大中文金曲頒獎音樂會) took place last night at the Hong Kong Coliseum, where over 40 awards were presented, including a special award to Theresa Carpio (杜麗莎) for her contribution to the industry over the years and the highest accolade for the year, the Four Stations Combined Media Award. Theresa was congratulated by her two daughters on the stage upon receiving the award and performed a couple of her classics on the stage to celebrate. Scooping a further five awards on the night to add to the 15 he had already received, Eason Chan (陳奕迅) emerged comfortably as the outright winner of the Media Award. His RTHK achievements included awards for Best Male Singer, Nation's Best Chinese Song, World's Best Chinese Song and the Male Singer with the top album sales. Whilst attempting to perform some complicated dance moves on the stage, Eason injured his arm, but this did not affect his mood and delight at his achievements. Joey Yung (容祖兒) reinforced her position at the top of the female singers, winning titles including Best Female Singer, Nation's Best Female Singer and the Female Singer with the top album sales. Joey made a special effort for the event and opted for an elegant black dress that made her look stunning on stage and wowed the audience, oozing with an air of maturity and grace in a change from her usual image. However, she laughed that she was not sexy enough because she could still look down and see her feet no matter how straight she stood. Not to be outdone, many of the other female award winners, including Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅), Kary Ng (吳雨霏), Stephy Tang (鄧麗欣) and Twins also chose some beautiful gowns to wear at this special 30th anniversary event for the awards. Miriam also made jokes about her figure, saying that she had nothing to reveal at the front, so she decided to show off her back instead. There was a slight embarrassment for Stephy, when she performed her song "Electric Light Bulb" <電燈膽> - Stephy Tang (鄧麗欣) after it was named as a Top Ten Gold Song because she appeared to be singing out of tune. A special medley was performed by some of the younger singers at the show as a mark of respect to some of the musical superstars who had passed away over the years, including songs by Roman Tam (羅文), Theresa Teng (鄧麗君), Anita Mui (梅艷芳), Leslie Cheung (張國榮), Danny Chan (陳百強) and Wong Ka Kui (黃家駒). The RTHK awards boast the titles with the longest history in Hong Kong and have been celebrating 30 years of Chinese pop music in their special anniversary year. Judging by Stephy's performance right after she received the award, I reckon she's not deserving;[ She really needs to work on it-.- But she wasn't the only one. There was also Janice. Man did she blow it, singing Wong Ka Kui's song. I'm pretty sure it was that song, but anyway, her live performances are still...horrible! And aren't they supposed to chose artists whom are able to carry out the song....in honor and respect of the musical superstars who have unfortunately passed away? Aih. hearing them screech out of tune like that was just so...disheartening;[

Eventually nowadays singers' ability are enhanced by technology alteration... Most of the artistes nowadays cant really sing well as people are going for looks than their talent... During the olden days~ we can see lots of singers who are not handsome and pretty at all~ but man can they sing !!!!!
whao....i'm dissapointed Janice didn't get any award. Joey...i don't know...i don't think she is that great of a singer & she heavily breaths too much in all her songs. besides, i kinda agree with ROCKMAN3.
