Anyone here ever taken birth control pills? I heard they really work to reduce cramps and acne....is it true? Also are there any possible side effects?
I swear by birth control pills. Not only do they eliminate all the cramps and mood swings and backpains, they also clear up my skin, as I tend to break out a few days before I surf the crimson wave. One shortfall is that I experienced mild weight gain, but I've lost it since I started. As for the whole 'depression' side effect thing that you normally hear girls talking about, birth control pills really shouldn't make a girl depressed because they just control your hormonal levels. Get on the birth control pill. It'll help ease all cramps and also put your menstrual cycle in check.
Lol youmake it sound liek life saver pill for all girls. but in the other hand if you look at it..the pill irregular menstrual bleeding, nausea, weight gain, headaches, dizziness, breast tenderness ,mood changes.
What? I've never experienced any of that (w/ the exception of some mild weight gain which eventually went away) whilst on the pill. The symptoms you've mentioned above sound more like the kind that girls get when they're on their rag. Like I said, the pills are supposed to control the level of hormones in your body which reduces some of the bad side effects that come along with your period, and even work to regulate your mentrual cycle. Of course, these are ALL possible side effects only. What works for me may not work for others, but I really don't see any harm in giving it a try...
hmm...I was on it for about a year..I'm not sure if the weight I gain was because of being on the pill or if I just ate crappy in uni...but I dunno, i didn't used to have cramps before and then when I went on the pill, I did get some pretty bad ones. Skin-wise though, it was good.
I took it... but not very long... just temporary to fix something else. I'd say it's your best bet if you're looking to have sex. And ya, I've had friends take it for other stuff like acne.
i personally love the pill cuz i'm irregular. in terms of weight gain, a recent long-term study said bcp's have no affect on weight. think there was something about an increase in breast cancer risk, but at the same time, it decreases ovarian cancer risk, i believe, so it's a give or take. think the decision to take it is a matter of convenience. if you can remember to take it everyday, i think it's great. and yes, bcp's can minimize acne as they regulate hormones, but i believe only ortho tri-cyclen is fda-approved to make that claim. hope this helps!
What a hoax. It is not scientifically proven that women who are on the pill will have a greater likelihood of getting breast cancer. Studies show that the birth control pill is effective in reducing the risk of ovarian cancer & other cancer types. Please... read the link: http://www.breastcancer.org/research_diet_062702.html
it's true dat it reduce acne and cramps but don't take it...once ur on it...u can never stop coz if u ever need to prevent things...it won't work dat well
Ok, kind of gross: I first went on the pill because I was having a four month long period and obviously needed to fix that. The pill really regulates my period, so that is nice. However, I never had cramps with my periods before I went on the pill. On the pill I get killer cramps that drive me to tears for the first few days of every period. So that really sucks. I really haven't noticed any other side effects good or bad.
Taking the pill is good for clearing acne and reducing menstrual cramps. It also helps if you have irregular periods. I get lighter periods each time. The only complaint I have is that I always crave for food and always have a big appetite! A little weight gain but not significant.
i didn't notice much difference when i took the pill but it does help for having clearer skin. however, when i stopped taking it, i had major cramps during the beginning of my period, but i never had cramps before! i stopped for a few mths and all those months i had bad cramps.. it was horrible :( i just started taking it again lately and no more cramps
harrrrrrrrrrrrr OMG u all leh.. get wrong perception adi la.. i'm not sure about wat type of pills u mean.. i mean there're many.. but leh.. taking too many of such pills.. will have bad effects on u not now.. LATER.. better cut down on d amount now or u'll... aihz.. i dun ve any medical evidence to proof to u now.. lazy to find those evidence on google.. but leh.. juz careful la.. it can harm ur pregnancy.. it can damage ur kidney .. but of course u wun notice it now.. onli will worsen if take too many for very very olng time.. effects r later then.
i actually notice the pill made me have less blood flow and my other friend said the pill really works for her and that she needs the pill to feel normal since it helps her reduce the cramps and the pain.
birth control works in various ways....if it works on one individual it doesnt mean it will work on you too. each persons' body respond differently. if you want to take birth control it's best to talk to your doctor or search the web to find out about each type of contraception. but it is true that birth control pills do help out with acne and cramps... there are certain brands and types that help with acne better than others.
everybody's body will react different some girls on the pills will gain some weight some won't. Some use it to help their acne while other use it to help regulate their period. While of course others are on it so they don't get pregnant when they have sex with their partners. For the op it really depends on what you need...do u need relief from cramps and acne, and also need to maybe regulate the time that your period comes then maybe you need the pill, otherwise their are better meds that will target your specific problem like acne or cramps.
it does reduces cramps...my friend fainted from her cramps because it was soo painful, that why she's on birth control pill
