Gigi Lai Takes Temporary Break From Filming "Jewel's Splendor" Caption: Gigi Lai has been busy taking care of her brother at the hospital. TVB decided to give her a temporary break from "Jewel's Splendor." Gigi Lai's younger brother, Lai Ying, was hospitalized due to a serious automobile accident. Sympathizing with Gigi's family situation, TVB executive, Virginia Lok Yi Ling, requested "Jewel's Splendor" producer, Jonathan Chik Kei Yi to excuse Gigi from filming in China. Co-star, Eddie Kwan Lai Kit confirmed that his scenes with Gigi, originally planned to film in China in June were postponed. Their scenes will be filmed separately in August/ September. The overseas filming schedule for "Jewel's Splendor" was revamped several times due to Gigi's family situation. TVB originally intended to film scenes in Shenzhen on June 10th, with a group of 50 people travelling to film on location. The trip was later postponed to June 17th while changing the location to Guangzhou and Qingdao. However as Gigi has been busy visiting her brother at the hospital, TVB sympathized with her situation and decided to excuse her from filming, making up the overseas scenes later. Allegedly, due to postponing the overseas scenes several times to accommodate Gigi, TVB incurred a six figure fee. Jonathan Chik will be using a body double to film Gigi's scenes in China first. In September, the crew will travel again to China to complete Gigi's front-angle scenes. Virginia Lok confirmed the revised filming strategy for "Jewel's Splendor." Many of TVB's executive management, including Catherine Tsang, Jonathan Chik, etc. were concerned that Gigi's current emotional state made it difficult for her to concentrate on filming. Thus TVB revised their filming strategy, emphasizing that it was not Gigi's own suggestion. Ms. Lok said, "I discussed the matter with Jonathan Chik and we decided to postpone Gig's scenes. I sympathise with her, but I believe there's nothing much she can do for her brother right now. Maybe she's too emotionally unstable to continue filming.
