Geforce 8800

Well, I have a power supply of around 250v but the 8800 graphic card said it needs at least a 400v power supply. So, can I use the fan instead of wasting another buck for a 400v power supply?

 

Hey, get at least a 600W. Power supplies are not 100% efficient. if u can afford an 8800 card u shouldnt skimp out on the PS.

ur video card needs power, not cooling. if it doesnt have enough power, u might as well be using like a geforce 6000 series. Its not gonna perform at its best.

I got 600w for my 8800... seriously.. go look for some sales right now..

the re-wiring may be a bit of hassle.. but it's a must! that baby's gonna run so smooth!!

 

For what it's worth.

I'm running my Core 2 Quad, 8800, 3 Harddrives, 2 Optical drives, and the Creative X-Fi Elite Pro on a 550W with no problems. You don't need a monster power supply.

 

yea.. but I mean.. if there isn't too much of a price difference.. go with something bigger..

what I don't understand is.. how could the comp only have 250v?? was it like custom-built? I don't think my old dell had that little..

 

That's true but when you're shopping for a Power Supply, you shouldn't buy something that offers the most wattage per dollar. It's best to pay a little more for a well known brand that might offer a little less watts per dollar than a generic brand.

 

let just say that i wasted my money on other component parts. I never except a power supply would be this important.

anyway, any good link to where i can get a power supply really cheap.

 

expect it to be over 100.... 100-150 go for corsair. if ur in toronto try tigerdirect.ca or canadacomputers.com.

and yea ps is pretty important. and like kon said, its not about bigger watts.... to some extent it is. but brand names really important too. dont get ultra its junk

 

Please, for the love of god, don't power your high end system with a crappy power supply.

you never wana skimp, cause when you get to the point of getting random cut outs and restarts you would have wished you paid a little more for a little extra
the minimum power specs are there cause thats what you need to safety power the card and not cause system instabilities, yes its on the safe side, but thats the whole point

Get a good PSU if you're planning on only sticking with the exact wattage requirement because if you play a very graphic demanding game and the PSU is weak it'll cause a crash. Don't be cheap with the most important component in your PC.

A ferrari is just an oversized paper weight without gas and if you're willing to spend some cash on a ferrari you shouldn't be filling it up with regular.

 

hm, I wait 'till that day comes. Right now, Everything "seems" fine. If I really need the Power Supply, I will then buy it. But, for now I'm off.
