I believe in fate all the time. God has a plan for everything and whatever happens to you is fate.

If ur still wondering about this question, go borrow a book about Buddhism. It will answer ur questions. And if not, come back and we'll discuss haha. I'm not trying to turn u into a buddhist. But buddhism answers a lot of those questions.

As a practitioner of Buddhism myself, this is a interesting topic.

First, before a debate or discussion on any particular topic or specific term begins, that term has to be defined. This already presents a problem since 'Fate' can be interpreted in many different ways, but for lack of an semantic argument, you could just pull any general definition out of a encyclopedia, as I have done from Google:

an event (or a course of events) that will inevitably happen in the future
the ultimate agency that predetermines the course of events
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fate

I don't want to say a whole lot now simply because I don't have a lot of time before I go to work today but I just wanted to comment quickly and maybe give some more thought to this discussion.

So throughout my studies I would have to say that Fate is a manmade condition.
People say they some sort of 'Fate' because they cannot explain the events that are happening or they may be influenced by religious or other beliefs.

I do believe in Karma which really is not the same as Fate once adequate time has spent to study and understand both terms. But for someone who has not heard of Karma or does not fully understand how it works, I can understand how it would be both seem logical and convenient to label something as Fate when the causes cannot be observed or comprehended.

Agree with kev that fate is something used to describe an event that cannot be explained. So given that...i guess a lot of things i considered fate is now considered not fate and that it was caused by something. NOw i thik i'll use that word a lot less in explaining why i got bad grades... :I

Interesting way in interpreting what fate means kev, but now I would like to know what u think karma is.

Similarly like kev, I think fate is a term used by people to explain events that happen in their environment which they have no control over. People are more comfortable to believe that it is fate taking place rather than just a freak occurence.

Well Karma literally just means 'action' or 'deed'

Later, in both Hindu and Buddhist thought, the understanding of Karma was expanded to represent the cycle of action, reaction.

So here it gets attributed into the same kind of group as Fate by many people. This is why in the West, so many people use these two terms almost interchangeably. So it almost depends who you talk to and when you ask them to define Fate and Karma they might say that Fate is a predetermined unchangeable event bound to happen in the future, not so far off from a 'greater plan' as found in Christianity. Karma however, is always changing based on your actions, so there is no definite future. Since you ultimately control your actions, you control your Karma.

Of course this is a very rough and fundamental explanation of the difference between Fate and Karma. There are many scholars that devote years trying to understand and interpret that Karma really is, and the reason for that, at least in the West, is that Karma is not part of the Western system of thought.

I would encourage you and everyone else interested in Fate or Karma to spend some more time to read up and learn about it. For me, it has been a very rewarding and interesting study. If you would like to PM, I could possibly recommend some more sources on the subject if you are interested.

i dont believe in fate, fate is what i would call a "fluke" like winning the lottery except on a lesser chance.

and karama there is no real explantion, since it's believed through the past what u did how is anyone supposed to know for real. so if u were hitler your past life and u die as a baby, what good is that for fate to be. Whatever happens happens i believe it it goes in a straight line.

im not too sure if i believe in fate or not.
like fate is basically the thing that happens to you, which you cannot control or plan and it is suppose to happen to you for a reason.
yeah, so overall im not really sure if i can believe in it or not.

  11. I believe in fate! I think if something is suppose to happen it'll happen no matter what. I also believe in fate bwt people. Not neccessarily fate bwt a couple but as friends as well.

I believe in fate although it never happens to me. But perhaps like other Asians, I think everyone has their own fate.

this is so hard to answer.. lmao but as much as we think there is fate, i think most of it is coincidence... like finding the true love of ur life... thats by chance. doing well on a test however is not fate because u'll fail if u dont study. ur not gonna pass just because ur fated to be a doctor or whatever later on in life

In terms of your present action, yes something bound to happen
