Since disappearing from the public's eye in 2018 due to her tax evasion, Fan Bing Bing (范冰冰) has slowly been re-emerging back on the scene. Her first major comeback to the big screen will be in the US spy thriller The 355 , the female led movie is about a CIA agent Mace Brown, who teams up with a group of international agents to recover a secret weapon, co-starring with Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger, and Penelope Cruz. The official trailer and poster was released yesterday, all five female leads posed in front of backdrops of their character’s national flags—Jessica’s “Mace” (USA), Lupita’s “Khadijah” (UK), Diane Kruger’s “Marie” (Germany), Penelope’s “Graciela” (Colombia), and Fan Bingbing’s “Lin Misheng” (China). However, Chinese netizens were quick to point out that this poster design could potentially violate a Chinese law in which the Chinese flag cannot be used for commercial purposes. According to China’s “national flag law” Article 18 "The National Flag and the design thereof shall not be used as a trade mark or for advertising purposes, and shall not be used in private funeral activities." This faux pas could potentially affect Fan Bing Bing’s transition back into show business in China. The 355 was shot in the summer of 2019, during which director Simon Kinberg expressed his support for Fan Bing Bing and was adamant in not changing actresses allowing the shooting to continue on as normal with no delays.
