Has anyone here ever been mistaken for their race? Like you're really Chinese but someone thought that you were Vietnamese/Japanese/Etc.? And if you have, were you mad about it, or did you just take it lightly? I'm Chinese, but I've been mistaken as Japanese countless times. I don't know what it is, but ppl who meet me for the first time tend to think that I'm Japanese. -noclue This morning I went to a drugstore with my cousin and the cashier lady asked me if I was 1/2 Hispanic? lol...I'm not even dark! I wasn't mad, it just felt kind of weird....so I'm wondering, has anyone else experienced these types of situations before, and how do you feel about it?
Same deal here, I'm chinese but people always think I'm japanese or korean. I usually say "I'm neither, I'm American" and they would give me a wierd look because I don't match their ideal image of an american as a white person. Oh well, its life and people still learn. -noclue
I'm often mistaken to be korean, japanese, thai, or filipino. In the summer, I often get a lot of people asking me if I'm thai or filipino. I think that's the case because I get really dark in the summer time. In the winter, a lot of people ask me if I'm korean or japanese. Well, they usually go through the whole list of asian countries before they mention chinese or vietnamese. But I'm 1/2 chinese and 1/2 vietnamese.
Im 100% chinese but some people think Im mixed. Ive been mistaken for Vietnamese, Filipino, Thai, and korean, but never Japanese. I find it funny that people would think Im Filipino and Thai because Im quite lite skinned. Maybe thats why some think Im mixed. I dont even refer myself as American even though I am because I see myself as Chinese first and American second.
i actually believed that sitorbewwi was partly Arab when she told me... yeah.. looks verii much like an arab.. .__. and no, i dont think many people has mistaken me.. EDIT: oh psh.. sitorbewwi changed her post.. T__T
once in a while there is an oddball who thinks im korean, but most of the time ppl think im chinese which is correct..sorta.
i'm an australian born chinese/vietnamese. people usually think i'm thai/phillo/korean/jap. but one time one person asked if i was lebanese and if i speak arabic. wonder if he was high on something?
i get mistaken for japanese and vietamese. i think that sometimes, because the person is not too interested or learn about the culture, its easy to lump people together.
