Hi people!!! Where is a good place to buy Engagement ring and what would you spend on it for your girlfriend? I am thinking of getting one for my gf soon so just wanted some advice!! =)
Be careful, lots of rip off places. Check out the following videos and read up on Gemological Institute of America's web site for an education to prevent yourself from being taken: http://www.gia.edu/ Hope the above helps, and congratulations on your impending engagement
haha yea, it is now accepted as 3 months pay lols! thats like 12k !!! >.< no more games for me and eating out =P
Tiffany & Co... but be prepared to bend over and pay if you do... Otherwise, find a reputable jeweller in Syd and maybe design your own? of course make sure the stones are certified . . . Congrats and enjoy the journey
There are the four C's when buying diamonds as each of them has a bearing on the price. They are clarity, color, carat and cut. A perfect cut adds approximately 30 % to the price when all others being equal. I suggest you try Blue Nile. They are very competitive in pricing and offers a wide range of diamonds to set on a ring. Congratulations.
Blue Nile is interesting. That's where i am looking at atm. If i get it from the states the ring i want its about 12-15k. If you do the same thing in Australia site its 20-30k...
I suggest you sign up in their email list. They run specials all the time. Blue Nile is a reputable store and they are very competitive in their pricing due to the volume they do. I have purchased from them before. The problem is if you buy from Australia and have it shipped in you are also looking at an additional 10 % due to GST unless you sourced it through a US address and have someone bring it in to you. When buying diamonds, try to go for the type that offers GIA certification. Typically those above 0.30 carat will come with one. My view is that a near perfect cut and clarity of VVS1 to VS2 offers the best value for money. Avoid the S type unless you are after carat.
I am planning to have holiday at the states and get the ring at the same time. Thanks for the details I am going to subscribe right away.
I would say spend no more than 5% of your entire budget for a marriage if you include a big splash on wedding party. If you don't have a big expensive party then spend up to 20% of your budget on an engagement ring. Even if you did not spend much on an engagement ring you can later upgrade too, or get more expensive rings later which are called eternity rings.
That's what I spent about 8K in USD got a good deal though from a friend's family that owns a ring shop. 1.50 Carat which is the band and the engagement ring.
diamonds came from coal...i would buy coal lol is the amount really that important...girl marrying to the ring or to the man?! hmmm
Your gf is an organic carbon structure too. I would just keep the diamond and throw out the gf as the diamond always guaranteed to shine.
Spec out the prices for the cut, quality, and sizes on Blue Nile and shop around locally. I saved almost 700 USD for bargaining with a local jeweler and offered them cash to save on sales tax =).
you should get one that is simple yet classy. Something that she would be able to match with any outfit.
I ended up gettting it from Blue Nile early this year! LOL! Thanks everyone for the tips. I even got wedding band too with it =)
