Hi guys, I will be going to HK during March break, and I have a few things in mind that I want to buy. I've never been there before, so I'm pretty noob. So if you guys could tell me where I can buy this stuff from a TRUSTABLE and reasonably CHEAPER than Canadian sources, then it would be great. =) 1.) Nintendo DS - I prefer a DS package with a case, R4 and memory card. Please tell me a good place to get it where I won't be cheated. Also I heard from my friend that HK sells DS's with the electrical plug that is suitable for Canada. But I have also heard that some stores sell the 220V ones...so I would like a place that sells the ones for Canada. I do not want to use any transformer plug things that will make it fit for North America. 2.) Cell Phone - Can anyone please recommend a good phone that is not too expensive (must be under $200 CDN) but I really want the basic features like camera, bluetooth, mp3 player. And also I want to know where is a good place to get cell phones. the third one isn't really related....but whatever. 3.) Shoes/Clothing - Where is a good place to get shoes and clothing? I don't need high-end stuff. I just want like cheap stuff =P Well, not exactly cheap, but relatively good material/quality/price. Thanks a lot! =)
for the ds you can try Sham Shui Po Goldcoast Computer Centre. Cell phones are everywhere. They have zillion phones for any price so i think youll find something that ll fit your needs. shoes and clothing? same as with the phones; everywhere nice stuff. thats the good thing about HK . its so dense that there are shops everywhere.
for the ds i'd take shaw's recommendation and head to shum sui po and head out of exit d2 there is a video game mall across the street and they sell pretty much everything video game under the sun and they have a lot of DS. Good luck finding an R4 as they ahve been out of stock for quite some time can't find them on any online site for phones i'd say buy it from broadway or fortress they are more reputable and u can kinda return them and they give you all kinds of free stuff if you spend money there. Also less chances of you getting ripped off by some shady cell phone dealer in mong kok clothes/shoes are everywhere if you want shoes head the shoe street in mong kok tons of shoes there and you can pretty much find clothes at every corner of HK
yes indeed for the phones i would go to the known stores fortress, broadway, wilson just ask your HK peepz. there are a lot of phonestore chains.
Sham Sui Po for the DS as everyone has mentioned phones, i prefer to buy legit from fortress, broadway, wilson, etc, cause i want the manufacturer warranty, but that depends on how expensive your phone is, and you may justify buying from the place wind2000 mentioned When i went there, i wanted an nokia n80, it was about HK$100 cheaper than legit places (so not much diff) and they tried to sell me an unlocked phone (new) but it had a smart tone logo on the back of it..... so clearly they had bought it on contract and unlocked it to sell on.... so if you dont mind that kind of stuff, you can buy from those places there are a lot of malls in HK, i think the best one i went to was APM, but it wont be cheap stuff. Mong Kok has this great mall, cant remember its name, but its like a spiral shape, good stuff in there, but not loads.
my family just came back from HK, right b4 lunar new year, and they picked up 3 R4s for decent prices... it's not really a hard find...

I wouldn't go to Sin Tad... there was a case of the phones exploding Go to Broadway or something, it's more trustworthy... Dont think it has to do with Sin Tad when a phone explodes. You can buy a manufactured Nokia from an official reseller and it can explode (there were a few incidents in the news) because of batteries. Cheapest by far to get a cellphone is in Sin Tad if you know how to bargain. PS. Just a side thing, P mall or any chinese TO cellphone stores get their phones from Sin Tad
I dunno, my aunt got tricked there once and she told me never to buy from there lol I got my w960 at some place in causeway bay near sogo during xmas
ye sham sui po is the best for ds with r4. basically nearly all of them have an r4 with the ds that u can buy. though as a word of warning there are many small electronics shops there and they are all at different prices so don't choose the first one u see. also be careful bcos they do like to trick u if ur not careful by missing stuff out such as a usb to connct to computer and such. also, they sometimes give u the wrong cable so best to check. for phones i reckon, canada is prob cheaper cos when i went to hk i didn't rele see that it was that much cheaper than where i live tbh. for shoes and clothing anywhere rele. tbh top brands aren't cheap at all in hk, so its best to buy clothing that u like for a gd material as they are much cheaper and tend to be cheaper than clothing where u live or they have a better style.
oh....so has the dishonesty of the small shops happened to you? Are small shops really that unreliable? Because everyone I know seems to have got their DS with no hassle..... Oh and could you please give me a list of things the DS should include like cables...etc? I haven't had one before so I don't know what should be in it. o rly....well..not goin to be in HK any time soon so not goin to get a R4 till they get back in stock at the vendors....also some guy at the stores was telling me that HK is cracking down on the r4 cuz they put in a new law for pirated goods in HK but who knows....
they are not unreliable though i would say they take advantage if ppl don't know the stuff they are getting. the gds are fine usually just they give u a wrong cable or just miss out stuff. so u just need to make sure they give u everything and check that everything is correct. if u do that u will be fine. also its not all small shops that do it. there are some ones which are always reliable.
the best is ask a friend that plays games and go to the same store he goes to buy stuff...you'll be better off that way
ye i agree, if u have a friend in hk ask him/her they usually know the cheapest places and if they are there often chances of them taking advantage is very little as they wouldn't want to lose a valuable customer.
thanks for the advice guys. I have a friend who's dad owns a shop in HK, and he offered me discount....but when I checked on the website, it's really really expensive. 199USD for the DS alone. :(
it should be cheaper than that cos the price last time i checked which was last august time was 1350 hkd for the ds with the r4.
