Friday February 01, 2008 Hong Kong A 29-year-old unemployed man – who was arrested Wednesday at his home in the New Territories in connection with the nude and sexually explicit photos purportedly of Edison Chen (陳冠希), Gillian Chung (鍾欣桐), Bobo Chan (陳文媛) and Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝) that have been circulating the internet – appeared in Tuen Mun Magistrates Courts today. In court, he admitted downloading the photos but uploading only one of these back onto the internet. No plea was taken and the man was remanded in custody so the police can carry out more investigations. The man, Chung Yik Tin (鍾亦天), is reported to have seven credit cards and debts totalling HK$500,000, and this may be used by prosecutors to argue that he had a motive to use the photos for personal gain, if a case is brought against him. The police said that they are still determining the man's role in the spread of the photos and that he may not have been the first person to upload the images onto the internet. A source familiar with the case told batgwa.com that the man is unlikely to be the original source of the photos, and his arrest may only be a deterrent to others who might consider spreading the images. Meanwhile, as the stars at the centre of the scandal continue to be noticeably absent from the media glare, Hong Kong's media machine has gone into speculation overdrive. Oriental Daily News, a Hong Kong newspaper, ran a headline about Gillian committing suicide, but this was immediately denied by her record label, Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG). The label said the star was only absent from work commitments this week because she was unwell due to the cold weather. EEG also dismissed press rumours that the scandal had triggered talks of a divorce between another of its artists Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒) and his wife Cecilia. i doubt the people arrested will say anything about the scandal, they will just deny it. as for edison, who knows what he may do. the story will unfold as time goes along.
