The TVB8 Golden Hits Awards ceremony <TVB8金曲榜頒獎典禮> was held yesterday evening and the event has become a highly prestigious honour for Mandarin songs from Hong Kong, Taiwan and the mainland.

Among the awards were handed out were the top ten Mandarin hits of the year, best producer, best singer-songwriters, best newcomers and the worldwide most admired Cantonese songs.

Eason Chan (陳奕迅) was named as the most popular male singer and
Taiwanese songstress Angela Chang (張韶涵) took the award for the most popular female singer. The mainland's favourite awards went to Wilber Pan (潘瑋柏 ) and Jane Zhang (張靚穎 ).

Other award winners included Joey Yung (容祖兒), Twins, Cao Ge (曹格), Chelsia Chan (陳秋霞), Khalil Fong (方大同), Laure Shang (尚雯婕) and Jason Chan (陳柏宇). The number of mainland artistes in the winners line-up was very promising this year and proves that the Chinese market is starting to embrace the home-grown talent.

Eason took a total of five awards at the event, including three awards for his song "Eliminated" <淘汰>, including best production and best arrangement. There was a hiccup when Eason accidentally broke his award for most popular male singer and he explained that he was too excited, but TVB have promised to replace it for him. Following his success at TVB8, he said that he is confident for more success at the forthcoming Jade Solid Gold awards.

However, Joey seemed set to undermine Eason confidence as she suggested that he should save it for next year because she believed that Andy Lau (劉德華) would not miss the ceremony this year. She has been busy preparing for her concert recently and she is thankful to her company for allowing her time off to rehearse. She revealed that she has been for stretching exercises daily in the morning, followed by a session at the gym to get rid of some lingering fat so she can look good in her costumes.

The ceremony was hosted by TVB8 presenters Vivien Yeo (楊秀惠) and Paisley Wu (胡蓓蔚). Vivien was asked about the rumours of her dating Eric Suen (孫耀威) and sharing an intimate meal together. She explained that they have known each other for a while and there were many other mutual friends there that day because they rarely go out on their own. Asked if there is a chance of a romance developing, Vivien replied that they are just friends who get along well.
