BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - The light from the cell phone screens allowed surgeons to complete an emergency appendix operation during a blackout in a city in central Argentina, reports said on Saturday. Leonardo Molina, 29, was on the operating table on July 21, when the power went out in the Policlinico Juan D. Peron, the main hospital in Villa Mercedes, a small city in San Luis province. "The generator, which should have been working correctly, didn't work," a hospital spokesman, whose name was not given, told TN television news station. "The surgeons and anesthetists were in the dark... A family member got some cell phones together from people in the hallway and took them in to provide light," he said. Ricardo Molina, 39, Leonardo's brother, told La Nacion newspaper that the lights were out for an hour and his brother's anesthesia was wearing off. Hospital Director Dario Maurer told La Nacion the surgery was without light a maximum of 20 minutes. lol iv used the light from my cell phone to finish homework during lectures where the lights are turned really low.. cant imagine performing surgery under such conditions though.. but experienced doctors probably know the routine so well they could do this with their eyes closed
lucky it was just a minor surgery....what if the surgery requires all complex equipment? they should ensure the backup power supplies are well maintained...if anything goes wrong it's entirely their fault.....
lol remember using the cell phone lights for things too but my old cellphone wasn't too bright, but my new cellphone's camera has that flash built in and it's freaking bright, would be using that if i needed the light now lols.
She beta thank god if she don get an infection cause the area during surgery must be sterilised and with people in it...it might contaminate the surroundings so she is pretty lucky, in a sense..-innocent
Cellphone screens for lights? Wow, with all the different color gradients wouldn't it really obscure proper perception? One wrong move that appendix could've ruptured. Who were holding all other those while people need to pass equipment? lol As for the generator, I bet that the laws/guidelines missed the pretext "functioning" when spec'ing hospital power management, haha.
Three cheers for tchnology!!! (for the cellphones) and hope for more technology advancement (the generators)
that's what happen in a hospital without backup power ... i have used cellphone light to shine while my buddy change a flat tire.
jesus......that guy/woman is LUCKY..... if someone told me (if i was unconscious in surgery) that whilst i was out cold n under the knife, that the power went out n everyone was holding their phones up to keep me alive i would probably fall back unconscious again from shock, and probably the fear of my life for actually being under those conditions. damnn luckyyy....... phone r so great aint they lol x
