Derek Kok (郭政鴻), who has filmed over 70 TVB dramas in the last 30 years, announced that he has terminated his TVB contract prematurely in to sign with a new Mainland Chinese company. The new company is offering the 50-year-old a salary of over $1 million RMB per year, two to three times more than his salary at TVB. Rumors say that Derek angered TVB executives when he secretly accepted a job in China without TVB’s consent. This prompted Virginia Lok (樂易玲) to suggest an early termination in Derek’s contract. However, Derek denied this report in a later interview, clarifying that the decision to end his contract five months in advance was done in mutual agreement. Derek said, “Of course that’s not true! Crazy! I have found new developments in Mainland China and Malaysia, and coincidentally, they came at a time when there were conflicts in my TVB contract. I have worked for [TVB] for nearly 30 years, and I do want to have new opportunities and developments. After a long discussion with Miss Lok, she suggested that I terminate my contract earlier. However, if there is a suitable role or drama for me, I will return.” Creds: ihktv
Another one jumping into the mainland market...obviously the $ they make over from the mainlanders is 黑錢. To be able to pay all those TVB actors/actresses that much $$$
This. Virginia Lok and all this 'face' type of firings. The identify of TVB is shifting. Let the mainlanders stay away from HK.. Keep them away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who is still remaining in TVB in coming years, that all depends on the salary provided. I think advertising media thro TV in HK need to be revamp in order to generate more income. If we see this trend often in TVB they will suffer at the end.
