This is a subject being discussed in several U.S. Courts. Acceptable punishment? One argument - Pedophiles are individuals who suffer from a mental condition and who cannot control their urges to be with children in sexual situations. Consequently, killing pedophiles would be akin to killing all those with mental illness that incur some societal dysfunction. ie. bipolar man rapes wife or acquaintance while he is not himself. Should he be killed for this action? Counterargument - Pedophiles are not all mentally ill individuals and some are just predators who enjoy being in control. Consequently they rape/molest children for their own pleasure, and are completely lucid in their decision making. As such, they fully deserve the death penalty for incurring significant social and psychological stress upon a child that will no doubt last for that victim's entire life. Regardless... how would one discern between a mentally ill pedophile and a lucid child predator? If society resorts to killing these individuals what would be the percent of pedophiles killed that actually are suffering from a psychological condition? 15%, 20%? Additionally, many juries will convict an individual of being a pedophile on inaccurate evidence and personal bias. There may be a great deal of 'criminals' in jail for child molestation that have been wrongly convicted due to juries that have preconceptions as to the abhorrent nature of the crime.
these topics always leave people angry or whatnot. but death is not the solution. one thing that we can't control: those who do it for pleasure but pretend to have mental illnesses. sickos will never stop perversing the world; all we can do is protect ourselves. i don't think anything can't be controlled. if you have bipolar disease, be responsible and take your medication on time! if you have some sort of mental illness, seek help and possibly request restraint.. for yourself.
I think the latter arguments are reason enough not to give pedo's a death sentence as you sometimes never 100% sure whether someone's a real pedo or have been framed. I'm only for death sentences for the real coldhearted murderers and if their crimes can be proven without a doubt.
yeah these are always controversial cases i guess wat i find wat i hate is, some1 commits some crime, gets caught, then says they have some mental disorder, gets let off.... i know its not as simple as just saying u got some disorder, but obviously the lawyers will get some doctor to do blah blah etc etc.... life's never fair, and the justice system can only do so much.... yet at same time with death penalty, sum1 who gets wrongly accused, would never have the opportunity to clear their name themsleves... such is life i guess =/ tho it is def nice to get rid of pedofiles. its always sad to see the pool lil kids get molested, and then they grow up with some disorder and stress
ive always had a problem with capital punishment... see, death, imo, is a quick way out. death by injection has only a few moments of pain, but in the end, its over rather quickly... now only other hand, torture by solidarity in prison, thats painful lol
death penalty has some history backing it up though.. the whole 'eye for an eye' thing... but rape isn't murder. no life has been taken, how can it justify a death penalty?
Yup, a death penalty by injection is just a quick way exit and that's way too easy; better to lock them up in a cell alone and throw the key away. Exactly, it's horrible what they've done to their victims but if a pedo didn't kill anyone he deserves other kinds of punishment. (castration without morfine, just the simple *chop chop* method?)
The death penalty by lethal injection is actually a horrible way to go. I read an article about a few months back of a doctor describing the lethal drugs that are used in the lethal injection. Supposely, the drugs will paralyze the criminal's muscle, but slowly. Therefore, causing the criminal to technically "suffocate" to death. IMO, that is horrible way to die.
well depends on the drugs used but think abt it, its still "painless" so its still an easy way out... body's kept all nice n pretty too
Im personally against the death penalty, im in agreement with the American system of making the prisoners do manual labour like digging and carrying rocks or whatever they do. that way society can be repaid indirectly. i think death is an easy way out, they should face the consequence of this life, and in the next, they will face God... i consider that to be a much more frightening proposition.
I think that would be quite effective. The one thing I don't like about people going to prison for something they did wrong is that our tax dollars go to providing them adequate health care and other stuff that they don't have to pay a cent for.
kill them all ... pedofiles. psychos ... i don't even understand what's the fun to engage sexual activity with a child. i say kill them all ... solve alot of those child prostitution problems and related problems - like child kidnapping.

Even though death penalty is a bit extreme, I believe that dishing out just desserts is quite justified. Of course, since there could have been so many wronged convicts, a 3 strikes system can be put in place: each conviction goes on record, and increasing punishment (imprisonment, longer imprisonment, death penalty) And no, getting the injection is not as crisp as many may think, it is a VERY LONG 10 minutes filled with pain an more pain. And yeah, if anyone know about Livejournals latest controversy, I think those advocacy groups are retarded to target account whose interest is marginal, really, would a killer brand themselves killer? Likewise, a real pedophile would NOT label themselves as pedophile for the world to see besides with their actions.
Even though they have mental problems, that still doesn't change the fact that they might have ruined someone's life and commited crimes. I think the death penalty is the way to go because society is better without people who commit crimes even if they have a mental problem and it's a quick solution, BAM!!!!R.I.P., we then can use the tax money for more useful things. Others can argue that criminals they can't control their urges, but the truth is society would be better without them. I know this may seem harsh but its a fact, there's no way for a person with mental problems and evil intentions to benefit the society in anyway. Curing them takes time and a lot of money and what if they are cured? can they be placed back into the society as normal people? they will probably redevelop their mental illness from the pressures of society because we are people who probably would criticize each other's background and reject people who have a bad history. I mean would we actually shake the hands or be friends with people who have sexually abuse other people if we knew that.
