Born: July 9, 1979 Origin: Sabah, Malaysia Gary did not have the ambition to be a singer when young; all he did was to follow what do what his parents told him to do which was to study well and hopefully hold a stable job or be a teacher. Nine year old Gary, while studying in Canada, heard the song “Superwoman” by Karyn White and that became the beginning in his interest for music. While schooling, he discovered his love for music and struggled to gain access into the industry. Finally he moved to Taiwan after managing to sign a contract with music teacher Tu Hui Yuan . When he first went to Taiwan, he didn’t bring much and didn’t have much of a goal in mind. Teacher Tu prepared for him a composition room in the recording studio; and thus Gary led two tough years of learning how to make music in order to fulfil his dreams. When he first wrote music, his works kept getting rejected. There were some producers who claimed that his music was simply not suitable for singing. After tremendous blows, Gary decided to change his style. After meticulous observation and learning about the Chinese music industry, he changed his music direction that was not too commercialised but yet not too “Gary”, and then his career really began to take off.
