Wow, that is really a miracle that they still can retrieve 99% of the data.

i guess its quite lucky that the actual disks were not warped, and the only damage was the sections which contained no data!

  3. 340MB.... DOS... serious?

well, i guess people stick with old techs cuz they know it works for sure...

    win 98 -cool2

this actually points out to a point i remember debating about a long time ago, that programmers nowadays do not care for efficiency of the software.. programmers keep making softwares that requires more processing power, more memory, thus leading to requirement of more powerful processors like quad cores and stuff.

in the past, programmers had to program based on what they were given, and it was much more efficient in terms of memory requirement and processing power, according to what my old man said (he was am os programmer).

so i guess if we were to compare efficiency (not capabilities and functionality) between dos and vista, dos is much more efficient.

yes it was lucky indeed but technology these days have advanced so much that u are able to get the files off drives so badly damaged like this that were prob not possible before.

Yep, NASA is still using technology from the stone-age when it comes to on-board research computer software ...

  6. Well that must just be quite lucky...... to be able to just take out the disk and just plug it into a new body to extract the data.... lol pretty sweet.....
