just wonder how yous cool your computer. i have major issues. i keep the side case open. i know you;re not suppose to. but.. ah well its better than closing it up. and i just bought one of those HD coolers you screw under it. and has 3 fans blowing air right the circuitry.

have any of you tried one of these? that look pretty effective

to me it makes more sense cuz the air passes through the fins rather than air being blown onto them, like traditional fan/heatsink.

i would think it would be more effective it they blew at the metal part of the hdd but non of them do, my case is lets see cpu 34 and system 45 o_O im pretty sure that hot lol but thats with a stock hsf and cooler for my amd and lets see theen theres a 80 mm fan at the front and 120 mm fan at the back thats bout it o_O both fans are silent fans so their cfm is probly lower then regs >,<

the hd cooler was 9$ at canada computers.

do you mean blowing air onto the the top part? but its the bottom part that gets hot.

i saw them downtown for 12$. the only difference i saw (compared to the one i got) either 2 large fans rather than 1, or more cooling fins

I've tried quite a few things to get my PC cooler. The best way for me was installing fans onto the side of my case so that it was blowing cool air in. This way is far more effective than installing additional fans inside the case - you'll just be recirculating the warm air inside.

You can buy these side panels with fans already on them, but I wanted something different. I had to cut 2 holes into the side panels for 2 fans (12cm and an 8cm) and positioned the fans directly above the CPU, memory and graphics card (cos they produce the most heat), installed another fan at the back blowing air outwards to keep the intake/exhaust more balanced.

    The result?
CPU temps dropped from 48ºC to 32ºC
Case temps dropped from 40ºC to 24ºC

In winter, my CPU temp drops to 20ºC, case temp at 14ºC.

Adding extra fans = more noise so just use a fan speed controller then you can sleep at night.

    Hope this helps :)

If you were wondering, how can I measure my temperatures?, Motherboard Monitor is the answer.

This free tool is the best tool to monitor temperatures and voltages. You could even set alarms and/or shutdown your PC if a fan fails, over/under-volts, etc.

    Motherboard Monitor is available here:
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=204

This tool has been such a life-saver since I overclock my PC.

How hot does your system get? How are you knowing it's too hot?

P4s are hot CPUs, but they can take the heat. For a computer that's not overclocked, I've never needed more than 1 intake case fan and 1 exhaust case fan. Even when performing stability tests on the units.

yup, sometimes opening the casing can do the trick and the hd fan is a nice thing to get.. it will dissipate the heat from the hd making it to function effectively..
