Taiwan pop king Jay Chow's movie directorial debut, "Secret" has been showing in China for over a week. It premiered last Tuesday, July 31st. Although it faces strong competition from US blockbusters like "Transformers", Chow's "Secret" still managed to garner six million yuan or around 800 thousand US dollars on the first day of release. It broke the first day box office record for a domestic movie this year. From a super R&B star, to writing, and acting in movies, Chow finally went on to direct a movie on his own. Let's take a retrospective look at how Chow strolled from a career as a successful singer to a favorite son of the entertainment market. Jay Chow's primary occupation is difficult to identify. We may call him the king of pop in the Chinese speaking world. But he keeps breaking the bonds that define him. The "monarch" of the recording studio, touched "the big screen" in 2003, with the film "Hidden Track." The flick whose Chinese name is "Seeking Jay Chow" traces a girl's journey to find a limited release CD by Jay Chow. She's trying to recapture memories of a long lost boyfriend. The CD, with no title, records a nameless song, composed, written and sung by Jay Chow. Although Chow only appeared in a cameo at the end of the movie, his song was the testimony to a young couple's love. The movie won a big box office, and it endowed the king of R&B with star power on the big screen. Read more about it here
