So do any of you live near a Chinatown? What's it like there? Do like it/hate it? I for one, HATE the chinatowns in my area!! Damn.. don't think that I am a disgrace to my own race.. but I have to admit this. The people there are so RUDE! There's always people yelling in my ear or shoving me. Not 2 mention the 50 year old guys standing on the street corner (who work at the Dim Sum places) smoking cigarettes. I can stand it that Chinatown smells.. and its so dirty.. but the fact that Chinatowns are crowded with RUDE individuals.. its crap. Another annoying thing about Chinatowns is that you CANNOT find a parking spot anywhere..unless if you park in this expensive Parking Lot. UGH!... Only think I like about it is it's the only place I can go to find cheap DVD's.
wow.. what city you in ? I know my chinatown in melbourne (australia) isn't that big but its still pretty cool, n has all the HK brands *woot* n heaps of food.. its relatively clean probably only because the council is really strict on hygiene etc but its not that bad. But true, theres hardly any parking anywhere unless its an expensive parking lot but public transport stops right outside it so its all gd *thumbs up*
Lol, I feel the same way. And sometimes, people spit at you for no reason -.- Yeah, and lots of people smoke cigarettes and stuff. And it just makes me sick. If some Americans walk around there, they'd think that all Chinese people are like that, which isn't even true.
thats the nature of chinatowns smelly, dirty, rude people,j walkers....etc yall should go HK + the humidity and its ALWAYS crowded (10times worst) .. lol after being in HK i find the chinatowns in toronto are quite pleasant.
I live in a city with a small Chinatown, and so it doesn't really have that unique cultural feel. When I go to Toronto and other big cities' Chinatowns, I like it - despite its dirtiness and smeliness and rude pushy people. (The smell is what makes it authentic ) I like how it gives you a distinct cultural feel that can't be felt anywhere else, Like you're actually in HK, etc. I like going to CHinatown once in a while, because there's some stuff downtown that you can't find at malls like Pacific and Times Square
I don't live near Chinatown but I do hang around in the Chinatown in Montreal and people are ok. I know lots of non-asian people like to hang out there cause they can get good chinese food for free. No matter how people treat them >__>. I've been in the Chinatown of Yokohama and Kobe and it's very clean and beautiful..
I don't go to chinatown very much, cause I like around 30 minutes away, but the few times I've gone, I haven't had a problem with it. Yeah its alittle dirty, and alot of people, but I smoke too so I don't mind that.
Say word. I hate the chinatowns in CA (all of them). I used to live in NY and the chinatowns there weren't all that great either. First of all, it's impossible to find parking. Second of all, you can't get by because it's so crowded. All these chinese people have their shops extended all the way out on the sidewalk, making it impossible for other people who are trying to get by to pass. Every time we pass by a fruit stand, it's like a mission to get through because the people in front of you will just stop in the middle of the sidewalk & not move because they're checking out the fruit. Third of all, it SMELLS sooooo bad, especially in the summer. When I drive past some stores, I have to make sure all my windows are closed; otherwise, it's gonna smell like rotten fish. They dump all their garbage out on the street because they have no room for it. Lastly, when places are crowded, people are rude and vicious. There was this one time I was taking my time to check out some asian DVDs and the lady owner kept following me around like I'm some Winona Ryder.
boston chinatown doesnt look like chinatown! it been americanized! not alot of asian stores around chinatown the best chinatown i been to was in ny. ny's chinatown got alot of asian stores and STUFF to buy.
I went to a Boston Chinatown before last summer. It was okay. I went with a tour group though, and we only ate in this Chinese restaurant and left, 'cause we had to go back to the hotels. -_-
the chinatown in london....... hmm dirty, crowded, smelly and dirty I, who look like chinese but cant read chinese once went to this food shop to buy some wotever red vinegar asked a staff he only said 'haiyah' ('yes' ar) rude the shops here are very expensive man especially DVD's u can get them lot cheaper on yesasia there's like a car park right at it it cost bloody £10 an hour i think, but ur very lucky to find ne space left ........public transport are ok i think all chinatown in the world MOSTLY but not all dirty the only thing that bug is when i finish a meal in most chinese restaurant they bring me the bill after collecting the dishes without asking, when you say no to the dessert....... are all chinese restaurants r like that? havent bn back to HK since i left u c but this chinatown is in the most central of london all the best shops r in central london it just got everything u want! ( but hell yeah IT WILL COST YOU)
i dont know.... about 10 years ago, there were more asian stores... but now it is FLOODED with american stores
Atlanta chinatown has gone from good to low quality. People seemed nicer, stores seemed cleaner, less crowds, more parking space, etc. With the massive Mexicans coming in (No offense to them!) Chinatown has merged with lots of Mexican restaurants and shops so the Chinatown has become way less of a Chinatown.
I don't live really close to chinatown and the chinatown here aren't that big and nothing much to shop around except for groceries...
I dont hate China town cuz thats my home. I dont live exactly in China town but around the area within walking distance. Ive been to several china towns around the country and would consider Boston's the smallest, NY the dirtiest and biggest, and Toronto the cleanest. I live in Oakland CA and my China town is a decent size, just a little smaller than one across the bay in SF. It might not be the greatest place to live in, but there is no doubt that the food is really good.
i think i dare to comfirn ..we are leavin in the same country man .. cuz u mention ..can get cheap DVDs man ... -clapclap cheerz man ....
i live in houston and the chinatown relatively sucks. only thing to do is buy groceries and eat. also it stinks, u cant park anywhere, and it's turning into viet town because everywhere you go there's a pho house
