Release date : March 8, 2011 Chet Lam (林一峰) & Shin Wong (黃馨) - Requiem For Flowers (花訣) (2011) Cantonese & Mandarin, Hong Kong. Hong Kong indie singer-songwriter Chet Lam teams up with singer/art gallery curator Shin Wong and music producer Alex Fung for a series of concerts at the 39th Hong Kong Arts Festival. The collaboration prompted Chet to start a project that he has long wanted to do - an album of contemporary pop songs inspired by ancient Chinese poetry, as he realized that Shin has just the perfect voice to carry his songs. The resulting album Requiem for Flowers is therefore released to coincide with the concerts. Using flowers as the central theme, the Mandarin/Cantonese bilingual concept album comprises 12 original songs and five musical interludes, expressing the uniquely Chinese way of love with lyrics laden with references to Chinese history and culture. Most of the songs are written by Chet and co-performed with Shin, such as the main plug Gui Hua Niang ("Osmanthus Wine"). The classical-styled duet, featuring Alex Fung's piano accompaniment, is about the kind of light but long-lasting relationship the Chinese yearns for.
