i dont think anyone actually has a conclusive answer on why we need sleep, i guess most say its to let the body and mind rest and repair.

Although ive read of this case where this man has not slept in like 30 years..... and hes fine....

To rest your body and mind and for your cells to regenerate and repair itself.
The recommended amount of sleep a person should have each day is around 8-9 hours and anything more or less than that is bad.

cleansing of the body. When you sleep, your body cleans out all the toxins and stuff. There was a study shown that a rat who was kept up had more toxins in its body (it died first) than one that did not. I forgot what magazine i read it from...but it was from a science magazine at school.

Go to sleep! Don't really need to know why. Your body tells you to or else you'll end up like the rat (quote by XDPT) lol

When you sleep, there is like 4 non-REM stages, and REM(Rapid Eye Movement). When you sleep, you go in and out of the 5 stages. The fourth stage is where you recover the most; your brain creates larger brainwaves and is the stage you dream in. The fourth stage is also where you sleep the deepest, basically harder to wake up. REM is just when your eyes move randomly, as it states in its name. Too little sleep can cause death i.e. Massive Organ Failure / Multiple Organ Failure. I think this is all correct....I barely learned about it.

Imo or as I experienced 6 to 8 hrs sleep is good for health . More or less sleep time may prove harmful for health .A sound sleep in the night is necessary for good health and to feel fresh .

apparently if you achieve REM quickly (thru conditioning or otherwise), then you can get away with 4 hours of rest

    bbes Incredible

its funny though cos when ur sleeping ur body is still working like as it is normally, so makes u think what the sleep is for and why ppl get sleepy?

hmm.. i just thought of this topic when i was sleeping in class lol. i was wondering how i can fall asleep in school and, not at home. But when i do go to sleep it takes me 1-2 hrs. I made sure that i don't have much energy in me so, i could sleep better and, i can't. But when i lay in bed, close my eyes, the room kinda start spinning, and i feel like i'm on a roller coaster ride, flying... werid eh?
