Recently the CRTC and Bell Canada have colluded in order to implement a Canada wide (Saskatchewan excluded headbang2) internet cap at 25 GB maximum with rates per gigabyte at $2 for everything above this usage. Some companies will still be offering slightly more competitive rates with caps closer to 80 GB via "extra cost over-usage insurance plans" for ~$60 per year, however beyond this rate will result in the $2 per GB usage cost. This is not only anti-competitive and anti-consumer in nature, it also will set back Canadians in the long term in respects to developing as a first world technological power. Imagine not being able to use any video streaming/downloading, online gaming or program download services off the internet without first checking your cap. Anyone in small business offering online services will also be hugely affected by this with potential internet costs spiking to hundreds of dollars a month. If you are a Canadian and as someone who clearly uses the internet I implore you to sign the following petition: http://openmedia.ca/meter It's the least you can do.
I say fuck the conservative government for turning a blind eye on the CRTC I'm gonna say it: this party full of ass clowns are more worried about winning the next election rather than fix the shit we have going on in Canada. Allowing an organization to break Acts, Laws and Rights is a criminal offense in and of itself. Harper's Conservative party should be disbanded.
That's just stupid, what are these idiots thinking, I don't see how the public will let this bs get through... Another thing to blame Canada!!!-ann
Wait, so this thing wouldn't go through if conservatives dont win? Or if the conservatives dont win, then the liberals and NDP will do something about it
The conservatives are a bunch of jokers. They just said they'd review it. This is nothing but a political play on their part. They don't give two shits about us, and haven't since their creation. Useless name that comes to mind: Brian Mulroney. Harper is exactly the same.
I saw the news and thought, "oh noooo, Canada!!! Why do you have to go set such bad example??". I'm not a Canadian; so, I can't sign. But to put things on perspective, on the days I don't go to work, I probably use 25gb in a day! 25GB is nothing. My damn iphone with AT&T has that limit too. I have to watch my usage and it's getting annoying to use wifi (where it's available). If Verizon offers unlimited data plan, bye bye AT&T for me. So, I can't imagine 25GB for a month for a home ...
Like.. each day. 500-600mb each day for drama. Around 20 weekdays a month.. so thatsl ike.. at least 10gb of bandwidth by myself Then i download/upload other stuff too + family usage. No way 25gb will do us any good.
