Hey all. Well i use to have braces and recently mt teeth have been acting funny and i was recommended to another orthodontist. During the consult he said to me that i need braces again and this is going to get more complicated. I need to get 6 TEETH removed from an oral surgeon. Yes people 6!!!! There are two immature ones that needs to be rmoved (ie. the one that could grow out) and 4 mature ones. Dear lord i'll be in alot of pain. My mum said to me that i might as well look for another orthodontist because 6 is alot!!! And she believes that getting 6 teeth removed is making life easier for the orthodontist in expense for my pain. Do you guys think i should stick to the orthodontist which requests me to get 6 teeht removed or should i go and look around? P.S. Im 21 years old and im getting braces again. Am i too old for it? Cause i feel embarrassed-unsure
it'd be nice to go around and have another consult i'd say what do u mean by immature teeth? the baby teeth?? generally speaking, it wouldn't of been a good idea to get braces until all adult teeth are out, else once they do come out, they'd just move the other teeth around =/ i've had braces before, got that when i was about 16/17 ended up having them for about 4 years or so? then didn't use the retainers/plates like i was meant to, and teeth moved lol i had 4 teeth removed (my 4 canines >< ) and recently got my 4 wisdom out i guess it depends on ur situation on how many teeth u need to get removed but generally, 4 adult teeth is quite common cos somehow i don't see 6 being very even to balance out... lol in terms of pain, depends how u get them removed if its in the dentist chair, yep fun and painful lol i got my 4 canines removed in dentist chair, don't remember too much about it apart from fact i hated the needles and didn't like to use needles for the anesthetic lol it should be relatively quick and simple, u wont really notice pain, just have lotsa holes in ur mouth
look. dentists dont rip teeth out for the fun of it.. my brother had done as many i think.. but if the dentist says you have immature teeth, better take 'em out or they'll be a pain in the future.. if your first ortho had done it right, they would have said you needed those 6 teeth removed before even putting on your first set of braces.. i think the younger you do it, the less pain you'll be in, cuz your body reacts to the adaptation more easily than when older.. thats what my ortho said... anyways, like reno said, do consult other dentists and see if they come to the same conclusion... after my braces, i had a wire behind my teeth, which keeps my teeth in place.. much more effective than retaners, cuz with retainers, in a couple of years, your teeth will move back.
yeah i had the retainers that were wires behind the teeth but only for my bottom teeth then towards the end of the 3/4 years that i had that retainer for i snapped it twice within a month =P kept trying to eat certain food hahahaha but yep, check to see other dentists/orthodontist have same idea in the end, the pain or wateva u go thru now, u'll forget all about it later on plus then u'll have perfect teeth =) something thats def worth smiling about heheeh
The immature teeth are the teeth that wanted to grow out but didnt have room so they squeeze their way out but got jammed half way. The first ortho didnt do his job right or maybe i gotten my braces tooo early (when i was 13) I had a retainer and wore it for 4 years then i stopped. And now my teeth is moving again lol. But thanks reno and dann
ur old orthodontist prob did a poor job...and u're 21 with 2 immature teeth? uhh rn't u suppose to have those out when u're lik 16..anyways....i had 4 adult teeth taken out and it wasn't painful
^No by immature teeth i mean teeth that was meant to come out but didnt have any room so they squeeze their way out but got stuck halfway because there isnt any room for it to grow.
yep check their opinions 6 is just not an even number i take it the immature teeth are all adult teeth? and yep, braces at 13 definitely too young (wouldn't say def) but then u don't even have all your adutl teeth out, kinda pointless and while ur at it, u may want to consider ur wisdom teeth cos 6 teeth 3 top 3 bottom? how do u evenly do that? u just can't? 4 top 2 bottom (or other way) then teeth don't align up wen u bit...
^ Umm hard to say. Never done human bio stuff befire but this is what the doc said on his treatment plan he gave me: "Extraction of the upper right second premolar and upper left first premolar and third molars (15, 24, 18, 28, 38, 48)". So yah, 6 teeth to be extracted :/
when u got ur bracess they shoulda took care of ALL ur immature teeth...hmmmm.........my immature teeth was moved perfectly....i never knew braccesss can do these kinda things.....do u have retainers?
^Yeah wore it for about 4 years and then stopped. I cbf anymore didnt do justice. Like i said about my first ortho was crap. When i was wear braces little did i know or he knew about my new teeth trying to grwo :/
go no ideas abt the numbering system lol but just check to see how the 6 teeth are done if u know wat im trying to say, 6 just doens't balance as its not symmetrical eg 3 top 3 bottom its just like removing 1 tooth, then how do u even that out?? or 2 top 4 bottom / 4 top 2 bottom then the teeth just won't align =/ unless 2 of the teeth include 2 wisdoms, then thats fine think we need a dentist to confirm the numbers =P
^ i dont know if my previous posts mentioned this but out of the 6 teeth being removed 2 of them are "immature" ones. the other 4s are the mature molars and stuff
well as u said, immature is just ones that meant to come out (ie adult teeth), but they just hafn't arrived properly yet either way they'r emeant to be there... so say u take them out, they still need to get balanced somewhere, as its all symmetrical generally theres no real need to take out the molars? i thought we just all take out canines for braces? i've still got mine in a jar =P
If you feel that your current ortho is not telling you the truth, you can consult another one to be on the safe side. From past experience, i have had friends who had 4 removed at the same time, so i dont think your ortho is lying to you trying to make the $$$. As far as braces are concerned, 21 yr old having them is quite normal and dont think it embarrassing at all. Just imagine that if you don't have it now, and your teeth start looking weird when you get older, now thats embarrassment. For pain, you can always use acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Make sure to use normal saline to rinse out daily cuz it promotes healing.
^nah not necessary canines. But like i might be confusing you guys by the term "immature". Its basically all in all a teeth that wants to grwo but got stuck half way in the midst of having no space along my jaw. So yah its jammed there half grown. But the doc said there isnt a point of it there because it not even developed. As well my molars are damaged because my bite is unevem >_>
^ If its causing you problems now, better have it removed asap cuz who knows, when you grow older, it might hurt or inconvenient you more.
hahaha u c fearless...ur such an asss haha @kachi: i guess u could always do it if ur in doubt...nothing wrong with that la.... about the 2 immature teeth.....u should get those out anyhow cuz they dont belong there anymore meaning that they shouldnt be there anyway....they should have gone out a long long time ago since ur 21 the other 4....kinda weird...i cant imagine living without 4 of my teeth =/ wearing braces when ur 21....dunno about that i was thinking of having them out of free will cuz i think my teeth dont look like all that had to wear em for a year and pay like over 1k but had second thoughts cuz the insurance company wont pay for it & I was gonna work in Australia I mean..it looks weird if u work in an office and u have braces dont u reckon? Not very professional....? if i were a student i would do it...who cares
