One month ago, TVB established a new rule for its artists stating they are no longer allowed to post photos on social media showing scenes from their dramas during filming. However, Bosco Wong (黃宗澤), who is currently filming Police Dog Brothers <警犬巴打>, ignored the rule and posted several photos of himself at work on Weibo and Instagram. Tabloids claim the 34-year-old actor is unafraid to challenge the company.

Bosco not only posted work photos every few days, but also added captions that gave away parts of the drama’s storyline. One of his posts shows a picture of himself lying in the trunk of a car with the caption, “Dead body hidden in a car trunk?” Although fans were excited to continuously receive updates on their idol’s new series, the move reportedly angered TVB.

However, Bosco does not seem to care about the situation despite having two years left on his management contract. In recent years, his popularity increased in the Mainland Chinese market and his salary reportedly tripled in amount. Thus, he is allegedly unworried about lacking future opportunities.

Bosco: “I Didn’t Know About It!”

When questioned in a telephone interview, Bosco only continued to repeat, “I’ve never heard of the new rule! Seriously, nobody told me about it.” He also denied reports that he violated the rule because he considers himself a “big brother” in TVB. Now aware of the company’s order, Bosco expressed, “I’ll just listen to whatever the company says. But…the truth of this hasn’t even been confirmed!”

Rule Was Established Because of Jinny Ng

Jinny Ng (吳若希) was apparently the reason behind TVB’s new rule establishment. On June 28, she uploaded a photo of herself on Instagram and Weibo while filming for Intern Nurses <實習天使>. In the photo, Jinny sits on a hospital bed in a nurse uniform. Her caption states, “Usually, nurses don’t even have the chance to sleep on a hospital bed, but what I really want to do right now is to lie down on this bed and sleep as much as possible.”

Jinny’s post unexpectedly attracted several netizen comments that stated her uniform look is alluring, which ultimately led to some heated arguments. In response, TVB decided to stop artists from uploading drama-related photos and proposed to release an online entertainment news application.

When asked about the situation, TVB Deputy Director Tsang Sing Ming (曾醒明) expressed, “The app is being proposed to increase promotion. TVB is not saying artists are not allowed to post photos, but it’s just that they should post them at appropriate times, such as closer to the series’ broadcasting dates.” Mr. Tsang added that the company would give the artists some time to adapt to the new rule, and then make its final decision.

He has just finished filming 3 TV dramas in Mainland China. He was reportedly paid $100,000RMB per episode last year to this year's rate of $250,000RMB per episode.

Certain detail for new shows should be kept secret but they shouldn't have to restrict them to that point. Bosco is doing well in mainland so he don't really care what TVB has to say, what can TVB do now, it's not like the old days, where their power over their artists are almost absolute. They have other opportunities now.

Chances are he really didn't know about it and the reporters just needed any story to write up, I know whenever my company sends out updates on rules and regulations, I just skim across it and hope for the best!

  6. More artists need to stand up like this.... times have changed and TVB need to realise they need to work with the artists... it's no longer an 'command and control' arrangement between artists and TVB...

IF they all go to China, TVB will only be left with keh leh feh and newbies from miss HK or the voice
