Superstar singer Beyonce has bought her husband, rapper Jay-Z, a £1.3 million Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport for his birthday. The lavish gift meant that when Jay-Z turned 41 on December 4, he was the lucky recipient of the world's fastest convertible. The Veyron Grand Sport is powered by a 16.4-litre engine, developing 987bhp, which propels it to 62mph in less than 2.7 seconds. Its 253mph top speed officially makes it the fastest production convertible in the world. Beyonce couldn't stretch to - or more likely couldn't get her hands on - the ultimate Bugatti Veyron - the Super Sport. That version made headlines this year by hitting a verified 267.8mph top speed, which makes it the fastest production car in the world. Only five cars capable of that speed were built, which are known as 'World Record Editions'. The remaining cars are limited to a 'mere' 258mph. Beyonce ordered her husband's Grand Sport over a year ago, and it's now the latest of a large number of luxury cars owned by the rapper. Jay-Z's garage includes a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a Maybach, and a Pagani Zonda. Careful interpretation of the lyrics to his song 'Empire State of Mind' reveals that he could also own a Subaru Tribeca - which would probably be the rarest car on his fleet.
