If only there will be scientists who will say NO to bigshot tobacco and pharmaceutical companies... But it's a start I guess...

This is a nice start. I remembering doing a paper on this. Nice to see something actualizing. Now lets see if this follows through and people actually keep to the code.

Between THE CODE (and oh, conscience) and a well paid job, I am quite sure most will tell their conscience to be off.

I still hope to see people stick to the code, not that I EXPECT them to... -mellow

Although this thing is "official", what real impact will it have. I wonder.
Like you said, it comes down to a question of will it actually be followed compared to other things. Lets face it, majority of the people out there, scientists included, aren't ethical.

Ethic is something beyond most of us: when one cannot even take care of one's livelihood, it is kind of difficult to be concerned about conscience (in regards to other human beings or other beings in general)

But you must admit, it's a start, I just hope it isn't too little too late...

AM UPSET ABOUT WILDLIFE CONSERVATION ISSUES, but that's another (news) story.

Im surprised that they only come up with ethics code for scientists now. I would have thought that every discipine of sciences has ethics in place already. -unsure

We would have thought... but only doctors need to take the oath (as far as I know, which isn't very far, anyways) in terms of ethics...

Yea, but as nurses we have code of ethics that we need to follow.

Good to know that... but did you sign your life away with the code???
