My hair is usually dry, but recently after recieving an advice from my friend, to not wash the conditioner completely off (even though the conditioner bottle states, "wash throughly."

I've been doing this for a week now and its really improving.

My dilemma is that most people on the forums states "washing your hair everyday can harm or damage it"

I wash my hair everyday, this is I usually play tennis everyday; after school and work. I play tennis at night.

By the time I am done playing tennis, I perspire heavily; hair and all.

I know there are times I don't play tennis which means I don't sweat.

But everytime I walk into the shower, I alway wash my hair.

As with everyone else, I want to have silky soft hair.

Should I only be washing my hair when I play tennis or should I still only wash my hair every 2 days?

Also I want to know, I usually use puddy on my hair, but I want to know, will this cancel my goals of silky soft hair?

    Thanks all.

cant give u much advise on this except..

I shower each time I go the gym and also use shampoo and liquid soap..addidas or old spice...I use conditioner every second or third time...and deordant as well...something like that I think it is personal...but one thing is, I do wash everything out...it would feel sticky if I dont...again personal prefrence...

i dont have any scientific facts about washing hair everyday...but there was one mainlander that told me that brushing teeth more then once a day can damage teeth...so I said wat da fuc....maybe he is right but judging by his personal hygenie...I would take the risk and brush ...

regarding the hair...I have seen some girls with beautiful hair...but I think they do special treatment for it,,,next time, I go n ask...

Washing your hair everyday is fine. Mind you that you do not need to use shampoo every single day, maybe every 2nd day would also do the job. Im surprised tho that your skin do not get irritated when you do not rinse it off thoroughly.

just read some stuff off the net about this...

guess you have to select the shampoo carefully...they are recommending "ph" balanced...whatever that means....I'm using this "professional" label brand called perfection...I sometimes wonder if it is labelled "professional" it is cheaper...

now I'm wondering what brand everyone uses...Í have use finese, fruits..something...but there dont seem to be much brands out there...

oh yeah....about not rinsing it out!! dont do that man....my mum keeps telling me u get bald when u do that

I'm not sure not rinsing throughly is good for your scalp...or maybe its because, like cheeks said, my mum also told me I'd go bald if I didn't rinse throughly.

I trust her because her hair is incredibly silky, soft and shiny. This is why I asked her for advice; I am pretty sure everyone is different since we all have different bodies and threshold.

No, I do not itch leaving it in, I do wash it but not completely.

When I asked her what's the solution to dry hair, she states conditioner, and leave it in, just don't wash it off completely.

Also, i think that baldness is hereditary, none of my male family member are bald nor lose hair.

If I don't wash my hair, from my pattern, say everyday. On the third day, when I wash my hair (shampoo and conditioner) I lose alot of hair.

Anyone else with a solution or comment?

If you are asking me, why I don't ask my wife instead of this forum is because she naturally have nice hair. She washes her hair everyday w/ shampoo and conditioner. So its a different story.

The condition of hair base highly on genetics, kind of like asking some rail thin friend and getting the "I eat a lot, seriously, I can beat you to a buffet" answer.

It works for her without side effects doesn't mean it would do the same for you. That's the problem with skin care, hair care and all.

Like wind2000 said, you can "wash" your hair everyday, but skip the shampoo or reduce use to every other day or every third day, but condition everyday (and rinse THOROUGHLY). A sidenote, I believe that Chinese people got some food items they believe to be good for hair... Sesame is one, methink.

As for losing hair, you have long hair? You only lose so many hair in the shower because you are not combing thoroughly on a daily basis. The amount of hair we shed (and in fact, everyone do shed their hair) is not based on how often you wash your hair. Just that if you don't wash your hair as often, you would end up shedding your hair while you walk around (which you won't notice).

    @ Hiake

You got me there, just about the combing part. I have short hair, so I don't comb it.

But when I shower w/ shampoo and conditioner everyday, I don't seem to lose hair. Like I said earlier, only when I don't wash my hair for two days or so.

I don't know how to explain it properly, but it's kind of like... With the daily wash/conditioning, your scalp is artifically conditioned and thus less likely to get dried and lose hair. But your scalp will eventually lose the ability to naturally condition the hair, which will means coarser or drier hair, a condition I believe no amount of treatment or conditioning can help...

But when you don't wash your hair in a few days, natural lubrication kicks in from the glands in the hair follicles, which, if you don't comb your hair or massage your scalp, will be unevenly distributed, only lubricating your roots (or stuck in the "pockets" without releasing into the hair) so when you wash your hair, you completely wash away those lubricants both on the hair AND inside the hair follicles = hairs are more prone to damage.

You can reduce hair loss during shower by combing your hair or massaging your scalp.

Who knows, perhaps you are the lucky ones for whom the "leave-in conditioner" method works. Though I can say it doesn't for many people unless the product are specified as safe to be "leave-in"...

I have the same problem that FALLOUTBOY has. It seems that my problem was caused by the gel that I was using. The gel I was using really dried my hair out, and I lost alot of hair in the shower when I was washing my hair. After I switched to a different brand, it got better.

BY the way, Hiake, who are you?! YOu seems to know everything. I am impressed.

i agree with hiake. -cool mm.. i've used head&shoulders from, basically, the day i was born and sometimes suave or lavenus. i use pantene spray-in conditioner sparingly; only when my hair is really tangled. perhaps leave-in conditioner is better than partly rinsing (like infusium)? i use shampoo every other day when i don't sweat. if i play sports/sweat excessively using shampoo is a must. and i've been massaging my scalp as well this past year and that helps as well.

like someone else said, i think it's important to just protect your hair by not damaging it through hair styling products, the sun and chemicals.
