Anita Yuen (袁詠儀) recently discovered that she was a victim of a Mainland business scam and angrily declared that she will take any action necessary to demand justice.

Recently, a group of farmers in Shanghai took to the streets to protest about a fashion company and accused Anita and fellow actress Rosamund Kwan (關之琳) for cheating them out of their hard-earned money. Addressing this false accusation on Weibo on January 20, Anita could not contain her frustrations as she confessed to being a victim of a scam and said that she is seeking legal help to locate the perpetrator.

She revealed further details during an interview the very next day. According to Anita, she was contacted by someone over a year ago with plans to collaborate on a fashion brand. Anita expressed interest in the project though the person did not make further contact. Some time later, she discovered that the scammer has opened up several fashion chain stores in China and promoted them using both Rosamund and her name and likeness without permission. When Anita confronted the owner of these stores, the person begged for forgiveness, claiming that the fraud was just a way to raise funds to treat sick relatives. Hearing this, Anita decided to let the matter go and did not file her complaints.

Unfortunately, the scam continued despite her kind gesture. Netizens spotted various new stores popping up across the country carrying her and Rosamund’s name. Angry that she is dealing with such a shameless cheat, Anita decided to take the scammer to court and made her story public to raise awareness of the situation. She also hopes to recruit the public’s help to track down the stores’ owner and to bring that person to justice. “I don’t understand how anyone can so blatantly ignore our laws and human rights. This would never happen in Hong Kong! I am making this story public because I hope everyone will help me conduct a human-flesh search to find this person. I will get to the bottom of this!”
