Focus Accepts NC-17 Rating for Lust, Caution Source: Variety August 24, 2007 Variety says the MPAA has given Ang Lee's Lust, Caution an NC-17 rating, and Focus Features has accepted it. The erotic espionage thriller, co-written by Focus CEO James Schamus and Wang Hui Ling, will screen at the Toronto festival, then bow in New York on Sept. 28, as scheduled, and expand to additional markets on Oct. 5. Based on Eileen Chang's short story about a shy Chinese drama student drawn into an assassination plot against a Japanese collaborator during WWII, the Mandarin-language pic is one of the studio's big hopes for the upcoming awards season. Tony Leung and newcomer Tang Wei star. Focus screened the final cut for the MPAA late Wednesday afternoon and accepted the rating the same day. "As with so many of his previous films, Oscar-winning director Ang Lee has crafted a masterpiece about and for grown-ups," Schamus said. Although the MPAA has yet to detail the reasons for the rating to Focus, the film does depict extended — and vigorous — lovemaking from a variety of provocative sexual positions, including full female frontal nudity. Wow heard the starlet just debuted, start your career off in a NC-17 film huh lol well i thought ang lee is overrated anyways, crouching tiger hidden dragon was boring, the hulk was boring, brokeback mountain (didn't watch it) is literally gay lol, but tony leung is cool...
I read this yesterday. I was surprised when to hear that it got a NC-17 rating. The sex scenes must be pretty wild -sweat. It'll obviously hurt the film financially, but who cares. Ang Lee is a great filmmaker and I expect this movie to be nominated for 'Best Foreign Film' at the Oscars. I've yet to see it though
must be a good movie should definitely have plenty of sexscenes these sex are beautifully choreographed by Ang Lee an oscar winning director cool, what more can u say
I heard word about this a while back, since Ang Lee was reluctant to edit the film to receive a lower rating. But I am sure it's going to be an awesome film. Are Ang Lee and Tony Leung not in Venice for the festival right now? I thought they got pretty good feedback there. Can't wait to see it!!!
I really like Ang Lee's movies. I think you're crazy to not have liked Crouching Tiger, but we all have our own opinions.
^ yup, it's my opinion lol Well this movie will probably be nominated for an oscar because it's the only high profile movie from china that is distributed into the us and also ang lee directs it lol, i don't really agree with the oscar wins sometimes they don't really guarantee quality look at what they did to martin scorsese, he didn't win for goodfellas, one of the best films ever and he won for the departed which is an ok film, but definitely not his best, but i wanted him to win at that time too lol, he got the longest ovation of the evening....getting off-topic lol, have to see this movie to say if it's good or not lol.
